UHHHHH! Then why is there an article like this OP about it? Because people don't like the way it works, like you said "Sure it sounds unethical and unsettling". Hopefully, one day Congress will illegalize it. It's really disgusting that corporates make a lot of money out of our death.

everybody is forgetting that companies ASKED for their permissions first. again - there's nothing wrong with companies seeing many ways to make profits to pay out for... for example.... your pension and retirement package.

did you know when you deposit your money in your bank... your bank is also using your money for whatever they can to increase their profits - such as life insurance policies? since you want to make it illegal - you better not whine about your pension payout being so little.
 
and they ( employee) are not losing or gaining anything..

The company is paying for it out of their pocket and will gain only if something happens to employee that is covered.. I don't see a problem with this as long as permission is asked and granted

For me, I will likely to decline the permission.
