Cochlear Implants Decrease Your IQ?

As already pointed out by others in the thread, OCD is a mental illness. If someone wants to bother, they can pull up the criterior for the diagnosis of OCD. If they do, they will NOT see cochlear implant listed anywhere in the criterior.

I pulled up the info on OCD and their triggers/causes:

"What Causes OCD?

There is growing evidence that OCD has a neurobiological basis. OCD is no longer attributed to family problems or to attitudes learned in childhood -- for example, an inordinate emphasis on cleanliness, or a belief' that certain thoughts are dangerous or unacceptable. Instead, the search for causes now focuses on the interaction neurobiological factors and environmental influences. Brain imaging studies using a technique called positron emission tomography (PET) have compared people with and without OCD. Those with OCD have patterns of brain activity that differ from people with other mental illnesses or people with no mental illness at all. In addition, PET scans show that in patients with OCD, both behavioral therapy and medication produce changes in the caudate nucleus, a part of the brain. This is graphic evidence that both psychotherapy and medication affect the brain. "

There is NOTHING in there that says anything about cochlear implants. None.

You are correct. Some won't benefit from the CI. But, some will. Why are you so negative against it?

You have to remember he had CI at age of 9 i think... later on it got damaged by MRI because he or his parents did not inform xray he had CI...

I got CI when 11 years old, not 9 years old.

Thanks to god that I don't need other surgery to fix the head injury but now its fine.

Thank you, Lucia. :ty:

Volcomskatz ... you claimed CI had decreased your IQ.... it has nothing to do with CI.... it is every person 's ability to learn...... that increase or decrease IQ..... I can see nothing wrong with your IQ... you can discuss with us intelligently... you are not stupid at all... thats nothing to do with your CI....

Who want ban on stupid IEP meeting? I don't want sealed "special education" on mine.

That is something you will have to take up with your school district. I think you're looking for an easy excuse for your issues.

If you have OCD, it's the CI.

If you ran across narrow minded educators who put labels on you, it was because of the CI.

Volcom, stop looking to scapegoat the CI. IT's NOT the cause of your troubles. Stupid people are.

11 years old? Then that means you have had the CI for 7 years? You are 18 now, right? And you will be 19 in December?

You are still a kid and you're talking about o-l-d?? (whoops! I meant a-g-e!)

You don't like this thread? Well, you are more than welcome to leave. There's the door...and don't let it hit you in the ass on the way out.

kthxbye

Lucia, I don't think volco is gonna leave... Oh well...

Yea, I'm 18 years old and check my profile.

Hell no, I'm not kid anymore.

And the stupidity hurts my brain.

Ha ha! I don't understand why volco is still sticking around after stating he's gonna quit this thread???

Well, I'm ready for a long afternoon of  -- well, it is storming here so why not sit here and be amused?

I'd like to add my two cents here. I won't bother arguing against the initial premise of this thread (that's been beaten to death, and everybody with some sense in their heads knows the truth anyway.) I would like to say that I decided to go back to college this year and I HAVE found that my CI has had a positive impact. I have found that HEARING a teacher explain something, or state a fact, or give a lecture makes it easier to recall (remember) later. I never realized what an impact being able to hear somebody say something has on later recollection, especially in my math classes, as I have *always* struggled with mathematics, and this summer I receives an A in my Algebra course, and it was the first time in my life I ever got a grade higher than a C in a math class. Is part of it the fact I'm older/ more mature? Possibly, but I do find now when I'm studying or trying to recall a formula, I can "remember" what the teacher SAID (because I heard him) as opposed to remembering a formula read in a book. I find it fascinating. I'm not saying that everybody who can hear is a good student or can remember, but we all have different "learning styles", and at least for me, being able to hear my instructors is a positive thing!!
