Cochlear Implants Decrease Your IQ?

Volcomskatz, You post all of these myths/lies about CI and cannot prove any of them when asked to do so. After making all of these statements everyone disagrees, and now you want this thread locked? Um, I disagree. If you come here and say alot of false statements, biased, lies and so on. You better be prepared to take soem negative comments. Before you make a statement, do your research. That way, if your statement is incorrect, you will be informed enough to understand why it is wrong.
So far it seems that you have blamed a lower IQ on getting a cochlear implant, Obsessive compulsive disorder on a CI and a few other things. When pressed on the issue, you backstep and look for excuses why you made the comments. When pushed further, you say this was an opinion from someone. So do you always look at an OPINION as FACT? If I was of the opinion that pidgeon shit was actually vanilla ice cream, would you go grab a bowl and a spoon?
Opinions are just that, opinions.
Here is something for you to try, contact the person that told you that CI causes OCD and ask him/her for documentation showing the percentage of adults with a CI that have OCD. Then do some research and find out the percentage of adults that do not have a CI that have OCD. compare the numbers and report back here. I have a feeling that the numbers will be similar.
Raw data is an amazing thing. If you have a bunch of numbers just sitting there waiting to be examined, the examiner can look at those numbers in any way they wish. The motivation of the examiner will dictate the outcome of the research. If I looked at data of people with a ci and determined that hypotheticaly, 5 percent of americans had one, and then looked at the same data and said that of those 5 percent, 10 percent of those had OCD, I could make the statement that CI COULD cause OCD.
But to do the research truthfully, I would have to look at the percentage of americans that do not have a CI. Then I would also have to look at the percentage of those without a CI that has OCD. Then you would have to compare the outcomes of the two to form an opinion.

Please, do us and yourself a favor, do your homework. That way you dont have to ask to have a thread locked because you are being outnumbered on a topic when you are clearly misinformed and just flatout wrong.
It seems that you are very eager to blame any problems that you have had in your life on your CI. Your first post on this thread blames a lowered IQ on your CI. Then when that is commonly agreed to be wrong, you claim that your CI is responsible for your OCD. Is it also responsible for everything that has not worked out perfectly in your life?

Didn't you start this thread?

I already GRADUATED from high school and there's no homework.

his saying "Do your homework" is NOT alluding to doing high school class work, but telling you to RESEARCH something before you start sprouting off stuff that you can't back up with proof.

There is always homework. Unless of course you are omniponent. It is merely a reference implaying that you should research things before you start making statments about the that you percieve as fact. It will save you alot of frustration in the future. It looks poorly upon yourself when you have to ask to have a thread locked because you are repeatedly proven wrong. I am simply trying to tell you "think before you speak". If after thinking, and you still dont know, then look for answers. Finding answers is much easier than finding excuses.

Who start observation with OCD? It's from my counselor and rumors too.

Now, I don't want listen about their BS because you and other members got upset with me, go blame on counselor or rumors for make mistake with CI.

Honestly, I did research alot but hard to find it.

I'd like to add my two cents here. I won't bother arguing against the initial premise of this thread (that's been beaten to death, and everybody with some sense in their heads knows the truth anyway.) I would like to say that I decided to go back to college this year and I HAVE found that my CI has had a positive impact. I have found that HEARING a teacher explain something, or state a fact, or give a lecture makes it easier to recall (remember) later. I never realized what an impact being able to hear somebody say something has on later recollection, especially in my math classes, as I have *always* struggled with mathematics, and this summer I receives an A in my Algebra course, and it was the first time in my life I ever got a grade higher than a C in a math class. Is part of it the fact I'm older/ more mature? Possibly, but I do find now when I'm studying or trying to recall a formula, I can "remember" what the teacher SAID (because I heard him) as opposed to remembering a formula read in a book. I find it fascinating. I'm not saying that everybody who can hear is a good student or can remember, but we all have different "learning styles", and at least for me, being able to hear my instructors is a positive thing!!

Wow, that's awesome! I'm happy for you! :)

I am 26, I am not in high school, and I still do my homework. Everyday. This is how people learn, by doing homework, instead of slewing misinformation.

Agreed.

Yes indeed Lucia - we never truly stop learning.

Hey that is just great, Neecy! Keep up the good work!

And it makes a whole lot of sense now as to why I had always struggled with my math... And actually when I went back to school (for industrial technical electronics required for my job) after graduating almost 20 years before from high school -- and because I had self-paced algebra and two technical math courses I was able to concentrate on them and finish them a few weeks into the semester so I could get them over with before concentrating on the other electronic classes. Whew! I've looked back and wondered how the heck I did it, especially with working full-time, raising 4 children and husband working nights.

I perceive Lucia as being bright and she had stated somewhere that she has trouble with math -- guess being deaf is what made us math-dumb??? LOL!

Look below to your siggy about what I said about bad crack. It fits.

(my sinus headache notwithstanding, heh.)

OC, I had loved your quote in Lucia's signature -- where did you come up with that one anyway?

Lillys dad -- I really liked your pigeon-shit quote too!

his saying "Do your homework" is NOT alluding to doing high school class work, but telling you to RESEARCH something before you start sprouting off stuff that you can't back up with proof.

Something his OCD should come in handy with.

 Bad, Ocean, bad!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

But, the point is valid. I am a rather curious individual. Couple that with OCD, and I can spend hours on the internet looking up stuff just for the heck of it. I tend to be rather obsessive when I want to find validation for a certain point I want to make.

LOL! There was actually a period when I was very young where I could actually understand a lot of math - one of my uncles is a math genius (one of those MIT types) and he was teaching me math when I was living in Florida at the time. But...after that....I just really suck at math! I dunno what happened...oh well!

 We were discussing someone in IMs one evening, and I just spouted ... That is what came of it. She said to me.."Ya know...That makes a REALLY good quote", and asked if she could use it, and I let her. Long as she gave me credit.

I thought deaf always did better in math than english? That would explain my problems with math class. I'd like to shoot the guy who invented math. :rifle: :pissed: :rl:

Hey, I'm glad for you Neecy for getting an A in math class.
I'm 39 and I'm still learning new stuff.

You don't like this thread? Well, you are more than welcome to leave. There's the door...and don't let it hit you in the ass on the way out.

kthxbye

Yes!
As to Vol--seven was very young when I got the implant--I was so "young" that they didn't want to do it at first.

He he me too! I'm even thinking of buying a book called google hacks just so I can improve researching on the internet.

The pigeon-shit quote is snappy and easy to remember!
