Now, I wonder what do you call "fixing to" as in "I'm fixing to go to the store"?

I HATE that expression, and it is one I picked up when living in TN. I wanted to kick myself everytime I said it, but it just kept slipping out. It will still slip out from time to time.

I took a very shocking bright nail polish and painted the switch for my headlights. It's one of the last things I see and then I am reminded to turn them off. I have also put a stripe on the key-fob for my car. It's an additional reminder. I think I have this "electric yellow/green" color.

When my little sister's best friend moved to Alabama, she said a lot of folks would say stuff like this. We had a good laugh over this.

I have a hearing friend that I met on World of Warcraft who says stuff like this.
She lives in Mississipi.

Not sure if their later models have it but my '97 Toyota Camry has a feature where when you shut the engine off and open the door the headlights go off! Thus, I leave then in the "on" setting all the time because even in full daylight it helps other people see you.

I have run a battery all the way down though by getting the seat belt caught in the door keeping the dome light from going off at a time when the car was not used for about a week.

Obviously this includes Chapter 13/14-eradication of the Deaf-Cochlear Implants.

Reality: I was NOT considering a Cochlear Implant in 1996- not a candidate under the OHIP rules then-only deaf in the Right ear (Profound in Left).
I have mentioned here many times-knew I would become bilateral deaf since 1992. That situation happpened- December 20, 2006. Operation Sunnybrook/Toronto July 12, 2007.
That is why i collected information: ASL/deafness/Cochlear Implants which I still have.

1995 was when Ms. Whetstone was Miss America and Heather Marsden was 1998. That was a different time when the deaf was in the news protesting CIs in babies like I said before. Time to acknowledge it's now 2011. And by the way Heather Marsden must be a deaf militant because she's currently involved in projects for Deaf Canadian women.

You didn't collect very much information on ASL if your ASL classes didn't even explain ASL syntax to you which is one of the very very first things they explain when teaching ASL. You need to upgrade buddy.

Can everyone on AD do me a favour and say aye if you are against adults going for CIs? Because drphil evidently seems to think the Deaf is against any and all CIs and thus we're deaf militants despite that he's been here for a year already and should know better by now.

CIs in babies and kids or CIs in people of all ages? I've been here for a while now and I've yet to see anyone saying something negative about an adult getting a CI. I'm going to go check out the cochlear implant section and see if I can find threads showing deafs against adults getting CIs. I've said very clearly above that in the mid-90s, the controversy was over implantation of BABIES. Not implantation of all ages.

As you've said yourself, not many Deaf against CIs and if they were, it would be against CIs in babies. So, what's your point? That drphil is correct in calling all people who identify themselves as Deaf as Deaf Militants? First you leap to faire jour's defense despite that she offended just about every Deaf person here and now you're piping up saying "well, there are a FEW deaf people against CIs" and making sweeping generalizations that people here are against CIs period, not that they are against implanting babies without their full knowledge and permission of all that CIs entail. And EVEN then, when a parent says they are going to do it anyway, then we advise those parents to give their kids a full toolbox to ensure their kids have the best of everything.

And p.s. I trolled through the cochlear implant section, just the threads on the first page and guess what? I'm not seeing anyone advising against CIs in adults. Only suggestions that they try HAs first.

Ok, I've decided after reading your description of "Deaf Militants" that I am offended. I also agree with another post that you do not appear to understand the definition you are using. I suggest that you simply refer to Deaf folks as either deaf or Deaf.

Any time you wish to use the word "Militant", you might instead consider explaining your position better. This will go a long way to helping clarify your posts and avoid the word that will turn everyone off.

When I moved to TN at the age of 21, I got a huge awakening about dialects. Sometimes, I swear it sounded like they were speaking a foreign language.

When I had been living there about a month, I pulled into a gas station to ask directions for a specific place. The guy at the gas station said, with a heavy drawl, "Why, dahlin, it's jest raght ova yonder way!"

My response: "Well, that's great. But is "yonder way" north, south, east, or west?"
