Change the future for a deaf child

"i work for a deaf school and recently we made a "discovery". the subject being a 5 year old "feral" deaf boy with no other language than the cuss words he learned from his methamphetamine addled parents. the strangest thing was that eventhough this boy came from a broken home straight out of the poverty stricken favelas, the government managed to implant this boy. wheres the follow-up people?? do you see something wrong with this picture? they just want to keep selling/marketing/implanting the implants. it doesnt matter that deaf schools keep picking up scraps of modern machinization up off the floor. it doesnt matter what happens to them. it only matters we are able to sit down in front of our 72 inch screen televisions and be able to "clap-off" the lights before we go to bed at night."

Yes, and what seems so sad is that people fail to see that language deprivation affects every single area of a child's life, and that those effects are often carried into adulthood.

1. I have seen this. Are you trying to say I make this up? It takes no effort to get two implants in most rich countries. It's perhaps a little harder in the US with the healt care over there, but easy many places in europe.

3. The child started to go to bathroom, and behave less as an animal after introduced to sign language(full human communication). It's interesting to see how lack of real communication affects the physics of children.

4. If all those 80 percent mainstreamed deaf people are to be considered members of the deaf community, I can tell you that many of them sure are living on the edge of the community, never really making it into the centre. I wish this not was the case, but it's.

Then why does it take a long while for a mainstreamed or former oral deaf people to become accepted by Deaf people?

Was he a bachelor? My dad didnt know how to brush a girls hair... After my parents divorced that was a bad thing... lol. But that's just nuts.

That's a blog. It doesn't mean it's true. Blogs are completely one-sided and do not have to back up any of their statements with proof or facts or witnesses.

I disagree. The original post was from a newspaper. Sorry but it was so full of inaceraties that I just couldn't finish reading it. It was deffinately one sided and untrue and it had nothing to back up it's statements with whatsoever. Just pure emotional nonsense.

Give me a blog any day. Besides this blog was verified by Shel who teaches deaf children. Some of them without language. So on that topic she's an expert.

i don't know. he was a person i met on the bus. we used to ride the same bus together for the entire semester i went to school. after he asked me some questions about how i did things as a deafblind person, he admitted that he didn't use soap when washing his laundry after another passenger made a comment about his "scent."

the original post may have appeared in a newspaper, but remember, it was written by a family member -- not a reporter. it's no different than the inaccurate information you'd find in a blog since they are also written by non-reporters.

Sorry to break the news but this kind of thing happens so often. I doubt that the blogger is lying cuz it is so familiar to me unless u think I have been lying all this time.

I know someone who used to put mint extract in the washing machine...
 
I just want to mention that journalists are perfectly capable of being biased. They're supposed to remain professional and objective, and some are very good at it, but others are nowhere near objective in their reports.

You have seen meth head parents get their kids bilateral implants?
You've seen "mentally retarded" (sorry, his words not mine) deaf kids mainstreamed for years, "crapping their pants" until they learn ASL?

I have had met a child with CIs who came from parents who were in and out of jail for drug abuse. As for the mentally retarted deaf kids being mainstreamed...maybe not severely but with mild to moderate congnitive delays, yes. I have worked at public schools during the summer and have met a few of them. In fact, one girl was had absulotely no cognitive abilities and she had a CI. It may not be as extreme as flip stated but I have known of a few cases...
