I found it a bit ironic how the entire pledge was a spew of intolerance and jingoism, and then the final component is "Fierce defense of the First Amendment's rights of Religious Liberty and Freedom of Speech"

LOL! Really?! Are people even aware of what they're saying?

Hahaha! you noticed that too, eh?

Now Palin has a real contender to run against!

I don't see the irony or contradiction. Does it advocate suppressing speech of anyone who disagrees with this pledge? Also, what's in there that's "jingoistic" that you find objectionable?

I'm not arguing for or against the document, but I don't see in it what you object to.

jingo bell jingo bell jingo all the way

Yeah, that was back in the day where people still developed their film. I mentioned in the other thread re: universal sign the language issues with my French Jewish boyfriend. But this is Jiro I'm talking to, so I probably can't take you seriously.

Really? The pledge is definitely imposing Christian-style Sharia on Americans!
And what on Earth are you talking about? How is this in any way comparable to beating fornicators and apostates?

Back in the day when people still developed film...you remembered how it was in France for politicians trying to be religious?

you must have been quite the precocious child.

Oh, like when Sarkozy was Pres and had a mistress (or two) on the side? What? Villepin wasn't a religious nutcase, either...

It doesn't matter. Anyone who opens up the papers on a regular basis would know that religion is sour topic in France.

It's the whole concept of candidate pledges that is the problem. Policiticans are supposed to represent their constituents and do what is best for them, at least in theory.

Open you eyes and look at the rest of the world. Try being religious in France. See how well it works.

I was speaking of the USA. Not other countries. My question still stands.

Candidates make pledges all the time - to environmentalists, to gay rights groups, to pro choice groups...I'm glad Bachmann made a pledge. Now we have proof of how crazy she is.

But since she's using religion and a Christian one at that, I think this is going over the line when it comes to keeping religion and state apart.

Not only that, it said, "Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA's first African-American President."

That shows profound ignorance. Slaves were taken away form parents and sold as properties. Slaves did NOT have a choice at all.
