No. We knew that they weren't the best candidates for conservatives.

Yet many people were gullible enough to go ahead and vote for them anyway.

how can it be a lie if he already took action? He promised and he signed the executive order. Just because it's delayed doesn't mean it's a lie.

so let's try to answer my question this time, shall we? Do you want Gitmo Camp to be closed?

No. It proved Bush policies work. Interrogations at Gitmo during the Bush administration led to the location of OBL.

About Obama "delaying" his promise a bit ... he promised to have it shut down 2 years ago

Oh, I dunno about that. I voted for Kerry in '04, and I wasn't "gullible", but he would have likely been a rather crappy president. Hopefully, slightly less crappy than Bush, but I can certainly understand the feeling that you're casting your vote against the candidate you really dislike, rather than for a candidate that you do like.

What stopped him from shutting it down 2 years ago?

The fact that he's far more interested in playing politics conservatively (as in "not wanting to take many risks", not as in liberal/conservative political scales) than in standing up for his espoused ideals that got people like me to elect him and volunteer for him. He'll almost certainly get my vote next year, but he can't count on my time volunteering anymore.

You should be happy about that, right? Cause torture is fun, or something.

Oh? According to Reuter (news), Congress stopped him.

It had nothing to do with being gullible. We knew he wasn't the best candidate. No one was fooled. But we knew that Obama was definitely the worst candidate, so obviously we couldn't vote for him.

The last Presidential election proved that a majority can be gullible.

What about the election before the last one! The majority where gullible both times with Bush!

All politicians on both sides are simply born liars. What can you expect from them else?

And both sides are cheaters too! I think I no longer vote if I heard about more politician taking his clothes off on line line!

Ecstatic.

Yes, and every time Congress has shown even the slightest unwillingness to deal on an issue, Obama's caved. He's made some moderate successes, I'll grant you, but Obama's white house has been anything but ideal, from an extremely liberal standpoint.

I'll vote for him again, but much more reluctantly this time around.

Best as in who has the best chance to win, or best as in who best fits my criteria?

I'm curious as to your opinion on both.

Ecstatic.

Hah, don't worry, I was just being a dick. Good on you for not taking the bait, though. (I'm actually being serious, sorry for being a dick earlier, your response made you the better man in this exchange.)

He never lied. He never broke his promise. He did exactly what he promised to American people - he signed the Executive Order to shut it down.

so do you prefer that Obama sticks with his promise, overstepping his authority by ignoring Congress to shut it down?

Because the American people want a leader who's not afraid to write his name on stuff! True leaders don't act- they write!

Wait, just up there, you said he never broke his promise. So did he stick with his promise or not?

I think this is a case of getting mugged by reality. Upon getting into office and receiving the briefings, he realized it would actually be stupid to follow through on his promise.

My crystal ball says you and others will be creating dozens of threads saying that he's a communist. dictator. fascist. :dunno:

He already received briefings and all before he signed the order.

Now you know why some of his supporters are frustrated.

Politically, perhaps. My guess is that he decided that there was a chance he might not win that political battle, and chose not to fight it at all.

I motion we all take an ice cream break .... anyone second .... for seconds?
