That's true.....going to a school with a formal dhh or formal disabilty program and other kids with disabilties is super important. That way they don't get lumped in with the behavorial/LD/ "Who's President Obama?" typesbut this where I feel very lucky I attend mainstream schools and therapy programs(I have cerebral palsy) with lots of "Deaf with other need students". Using all forms of communication. I think that having Deaf friends in your peer group is as important as the language/aiding choice
Not saying that ALL dhh kids test poorly on achievement tests. Just that a lot of mainstreamed kids do. It's exactly like how there would be a handful of kids from an inner city school who end up at Harvard or MIT or whatever.I had higher scores than my peers.
