Baby born deaf will get 'bionic ears' that could help him hear and talk

And to add to that.. I graduated with a Standard Diploma not a special one.

but this where I feel very lucky I attend mainstream schools and therapy programs(I have cerebral palsy) with lots of "Deaf with other need students". Using all forms of communication. I think that having Deaf friends in your peer group is as important as the language/aiding choice
That's true.....going to a school with a formal dhh or formal disabilty program and other kids with disabilties is super important. That way they don't get lumped in with the behavorial/LD/ "Who's President Obama?" types
I had higher scores than my peers. Even when I went to Deaf school I mainstreamed to a public school so I could maintain my level
Not saying that ALL dhh kids test poorly on achievement tests. Just that a lot of mainstreamed kids do. It's exactly like how there would be a handful of kids from an inner city school who end up at Harvard or MIT or whatever.

My schools never had formal programs it was luck. most of my childhood was therapy based I just lived in the right town (if the parents wanted therapy there was limited choices) so all the kids with therapy based after school activities(RDA,swimming) knew each other
