AZ Congresswoman...12 others, shot

That doesn't mean much at all, for every article you find written by someone jewish that says that Palin was right, there is an article written by someone else jewish that says it was wrong and finds it offensive.

How about we all be happy about the fact that the congress woman lived and hopefully she is still in tact cognitively.

Agreed. And lets hope that there are no more deranged people out there being influenced by Palin's inflammatory rhetoric or that of other policticians and so-called pundits.

The congresswoman appears to be making improvements daily. Good news.

What brought you to ask me such a question? The article was purely political. It has nothing to do with liking a person.

Rabbi Boteach is crossing that line of separation of church and state by publishing such a political statement on behalf of Judaism. :cool2:

If he wants to publish political statements, he does so as an individual with a singular opinion...not as a religious leader.

I don't think it's far fetched that we could be facing a civil war in the future given what passes for rhetoric. I'm deploring the trend toward the scorched earth approach and give no quarter approach.

I just think the content of his article is crap, I don't hate the fella who wrote it.

Some don't understand that criticizing the nature of a piece of writing is not the same as criticizing or condemning the person who wrote it. That is why so many ad hominem attacks occur in these threads.

It is frightening. Those who are in a position to influence society in the way that politicians do need to step up and be responsible for the contributions they make in incidents like this and stop going on TV playing the victim and trying to justify their innappropriate behaviors.

Yes I know. I hope I'm wrong.

If something like this should happen, can it wait two years. By then I would have gotten my license as a nurse and if I haven't run into some poor soul who is willing to put up with me, I will be gone abroad joined with doctors and nurses without borders and I will watch this tragedy from the sidelines because what a ridiculous thing to fight over.

I saw that too as well. Didn't they take it down following the massacre?

Yes. It's pretty deliberate and designed to invoke whatever comes to mind when you view the graphic.

"don't retreat. RELOAD!".

It's interesting how they don't make a big deal out of violence, yet they freak out over an exposed boob during Superbowl.

Nobody freaks out at military jets flying over stadiums during games or the ever-pervasive military motifs in games, etc. and they should. Phooey.

Frightening when you think about the priorities in place that allows that attitude.:cool2:

does he look crazy (criminal) too?

He look likes he is angry or disturb!

Meh I just think it's calculated approach that Palin made ("team Palin 2012") when delivering the speech. I'm not quite sure if she made the "blood libel" connection herself and some of it is contradiction to what she has done in the past. It doesn't mean she is wrong but I question the motive to actually do a video an make the reference itself. To some people, and myself this is a signal to a run to 2012.
If it is a "signal to run" it sure isn't a clear one. I didn't get that "signal" from her message. To be honest, I wasn't even interested in what she had to say about the Arizona shootings until so many people made a stink about it. It seems that the people who criticize Palin for being attention hungry are the ones who give her the most attention. How ironic is that?

Why didn't she apologize for the "crosshairs map".
Why should she? It wasn't intended as a plan for assassins. There's no accounting for people stupid enough or nutty enough to think that it was.

It's more about marketing than narcissism. Publishers know that more people will buy books authored by famous people than by Joe Schmoes.

Even when a celebrity writes his own book it's usually heavily edited, which most readers either don't know about or don't care about.

Most politicians use speech writers but no one seems to care about that.

I do care that politicians use speech writers as I had no idea how much of the speech is the views of the speech writers . I would love to see
politicians write their own speeches and see just how well they can really write on their own.

Do you have any proof that the actions of any deranged people have been the result of anything Palin or any other politicians or "so-called pundits" have said?

She was specifically attacked by name as a cause of the shooting. Should she have ignored that?

do you think it all right that she ignored that some of the victims are Jewish. I read the 9 years old girl was Jewish and Giffords is Jewish. It was an ignorant and insensitive thing to say!

Were their families offended?

Did you answer my question?

"blood libel". I think it's clear she's looking to draw a favorable distinction over the current event and the previous map graphic. She's not an elected official...to what gain does she stand from to make a speech that doesn't point to herself for being *some* influence on the shooter.

She could've said nothing.

Let her run in 2012. Let's say at this moment Obama has my vote over her.

I'm just going to bypass around 200 posts in this thread and state that even though this event was a tragedy, it is only going to occur more frequently in the future.

I don't know how it's going to be solved, but I know it's still going to happen more frequently. I hope the good folks of America can find a way to solve it.

Kind of just like watching how the Dylan and Klebold saga had mini-spinoffs.
