Liza said:Eve would add much diversity to the mix in this team of moderators, in my opinion. She's very strong minded - you've seen that. She's not afraid of saying what's on her mind. You saw that. She's not afraid of offending people... WHEN she needs to get things said or done. You saw that. She has integrity.
LizzieChickie, I do have troubles with your statements:
Granted she is not afraid of offending people, however, it is my belief that as a moderator, ones own beliefs must be restrained and separated from the role of being a moderator. A moderator must be quite diplomatic to EVERYONE, and that means saying things in such terms that will not offend other people. If a person is a moderator, I do not believe that gives him the carte blanche to offend people nor to penalise people for random silliness that can happen from time to time. I have noticed myself that when I was a moderator here for AD, I had to try to the best of my ability to not to judge people and to keep my mouth shut. Now that I am no longer a mod, it gives me a bigger opportunity to tell people what I REALLY think. I don't think one can really continue to do that once he/she becomes a moderator. That would most definite compromise with his/her own integrity. Maintaining ones own integrity is finding the moderation in his/her own diplomatic means of controling the situations if they should need it. In other words, one would have to also moderate oneself.
