Arizona governor signs immigration bill

Wouldn't know. I don't know a single pothead that got arrested. Usually they have to give up their stash, and get off with a "warning."

I was in the car when it happened to a friend of mine, from Bellingham WA, before the border security tightened up, when we got pulled over-- I didn't even know he had pot tucked in his side door.

And you're angry at the police?

GOOD!!! I hope my ex hubby gets subjected to racial profiling constantly!!!

*sarcasm but I hope he gets his ass beaten by the cops*

And you're angry at the police?

If I was angry at them, would my best friend be a HoH cop in Edmonton? No, I am angry at how they operate. Either arrest them, or don't. Why bother taking their stash and let them off without charging them?

I don't care if they follow the laws to the letter, but it's when they use the law against the people to force them to be in between a "rock and a hard" I don't approve of.

The immigration law is another one of those will create scenarios for corruption.

I don't have the ability to read people's mind on whether they're angry or not, even if they have a best friend who is a cop. Certainly I don't draw the line and say that cops are bad. There are some bad ones, to be sure, but that's as far as I go.

don't you think this will increase cases of pull-overs and police harassment on law-abiding immigrants?

Seeing a lot of my old Arizonan friends on FB posting how ashamed they are to be Arizonans now...I got mixed feelings about this.

not happy about this. there are better ways to combat against illegal immigration rather than giving more authority and potentially abusive power to police officers.

I agree with you Jiro ! This came to my mind when I heard this TV! There are a lot of cops that love to abuse their power!

At least one state is trying to do something to combat the illegal alien problem.

The bill requires immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times

Awesome, talk about being reasonable. The equivalent of making disabled people carry documentation at all times. Oh, but you see, it's not quite as absurd when it comes to "those Mexicans."

requires police to question people if there is reason to suspect that they're in the United States illegally. It also targets those who hire illegal immigrant day laborers or knowingly transport them.

Yay! Providing a legal basis for racist attitudes!

"This training will include what does and does not constitute reasonable suspicion that a person is not legally present in the United States," Brewer said after signing the bill.

So um, what are these reasonable suspicions? And how many police officers are actually going to go by these reasonable suspicions and remain totally blind to race?

Fellow Republican state Sen. Frank Antenori said the biggest reason he supported the bill was because a rancher in one of the counties he represents was murdered by someone who crossed the U.S. border with Mexico illegally. He said the person of interest in the killing had crossed the border numerous times and cited other similar violent crimes.

Of course. Since one Mexican is a psycho murder, that must mean that all Mexicans
are.

Latino members of Congress also slammed the bill.

Gee I wonder why.

even if it's a questionable method with history of racism by police and civil lawsuits?

so let's see.... you have no problem with Arizona "doing" something about illegal alien problem but you have a problem with federal government "doing" something about it like... Closed Captioning Bill HR 3101? :hmm:

I'm wondering how many Caucasian people (non-American & illegal) will the police officers stop to verify for their immigration status :hmm:

I don't see anywhere in the Article where it says documentation must be carried at all times (e.g. “carry papers or go to jail”).

from your OP - 2nd paragraph
The bill requires immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times and requires police to question people if there is reason to suspect that they're in the United States illegally. It also targets those who hire illegal immigrant day laborers or knowingly transport them.

I once saw someone wearing a tee shirt that said "Ningun ser humano es ilegal."
(No human being is illegal.)

I gotta agree with that.

It's illegal (non-citizens) to be in Mexico without proper documentation and Arizona can't request that??

we're not in Mexico. this is a country where a law-abiding, free man of any race can walk around without being stopped by cop (racial-profiling) to prove his immigration status.

I often wonder what would happen if the whites (that includes me) were the subject of racial profiling? Some day, whites will not be a majority in the US. I think we are getting near the time when all people should carry some sort of identification, or run the risk of being detained. Who says all aliens are non-white?

My impression of Arizona from a few road trips; desolate. I noted that the northern Indian reservation was a sea of hopelessness. Nothing could be done with that land. A lot of them set up roadside shops, selling trinkets. Good luck picking the illegal Hispanics out of the population with so many Indian tribes. Call it stereotyping, but they have similar appearances.

We fight to keep aliens out, but have nothing but excuses for all the tech jobs that leave. If all these higher paying jobs had stayed, there might be less complaint about "Juan" doing landscaping jobs.
