I have crashed a car while texting, ok, it was just a bump at low speed, but still.. Fekking mobile phone. Never texting anymore while driving. Read somewhere it's as dangerous as drinking and driving, and got no problem beliving that.

See, you learned your lesson. Its a shame everyone can't.

Good for you flip for making the choice to stop texting while driving. I wish other people would follow your example.

why would you wish they follow flip's example? Flip decided to stop AFTER the accident occurred. I prefer that flip be constantly drilled about it from comprehensive driver education and awareness program. That's why we fastened our belts like it's our 2nd nature.

Better flip learn the lesson about the dangers of texting while driving after the fact rather than not at all.

How is it possible to text and drive at the same time? If you're texting, one hand is on the steering wheel while the other is on your cell phone. My sister told me the print font on cell phones is pretty small and the keyboard for texting is even smaller.

I memorized the keyboard on my SKLX by my fingers while I look at the road. And I text only when I drive on the smooth and straight roads such as interstate or state roads but not in the cities or drive during the rain.

How can someone look at a cell phone and the road at the same time? Is that really possible? I'm asking not to be critical. I'm asking because I honestly don't know. I was born totally blind, so I've never been able to observe this for myself.

You got me thinking. Try handcuffing your wrists and type at your computer and eat soup at the same time. Can you do that without making mistakes on computer or spilling soup on the keyboard?? Does that give you an idea of how it is like driving while texting???

That's a frightening thought.

Better flip learn the lesson about the dangers of texting while driving after the fact rather than not at all. Would you agree?

so what happens if he seriously injured or even killed the person? Flip can be charged with vehicular manslaughter and may not see outside the jail for several years. That's the whole point of a preventive program. We can show dozens of horrifying video clips of the consequence in driver education and perhaps bring in the victim or driver as guest speaker. They'd think twice before doing it in real life!

I don't think driver's should text at all when they are driving regardless of the environment they are traveling in, but that's just my opinion. I know others will disagree.

No, better people not have accident in first place cause they should know better than to text while driving. That is what common sense should be used for, to prevent accidents in first place.

so what happens if he seriously injured or even killed the person?

First you say there shouldn't be a law. Now you say that flip could severely injure or kill someone because he learned about the dangers of texting after the fact (i.e. having a slight accident).

You are contradicting your own argument.

I find it interesting how you can predict what drivers will and won't do behind the wheel of a car. None of us knows how anyone will behave when driving. Someone can receive all the driver's ed. training in the world yet that will never guarantee that they will be a safe and responsible driver.

that's precisely what training training training is for. It's very dangerous to assume they know what we know. Here's a good quote - “Assumption is the mother of the screw-up”

Yes, Training can be helpful and it can be educational.

But, Here's the thing - No matter how much training or education a person has. One will still do it regardless of what the law says, unfortunately.

While it may be skewed but if one were to experience it, it will perhaps open their eyes one way or another. However, The question is, Just how bad will the incident be? It depends on the given situation.

Maybe experiencing the situation will in fact be helpful for them to be aware, but then again, would it be assertive to have something like that to happen in order for one to get on the board? That remains to be seen.
