Ok guys so its allergy season for me again and the ringing in my ear is constant, my hearing in my good ear sounds like its blocked by something. (kinda between traveling up and down mountains with popping sounds and as if you got water in your ears).... This has been going on for a month now, I've tried allergy meds and nothing is helping. I'm losing my freakin mind, I have no health insurance... someone help me out here.

Also, I went to my audiologist to look at my ear and he said from what he sees I may either have a big ear drum or fluid in my ear from allergies, hes not a doctor for that so he can't help me...

If I'm babbling I'm sorry I'm just fustrated, what do I do guys?

Call around to ENT offices and tell them you don't have insurance and will they give you a "discount" and allow you to pay monthly. I've heard that some doctors' will do this for uninsured. Can't hurt to try.

Sorry to "hear" it....But since you do have some hearing in one ear, it's important to see an ENT to get the right diagnosis....very important!...If it's fluid build-up, then it needs to be drained out as it can cause Cholesteatoma, which I have in my left ear (and will require surgery very soon)....never get any water in your ears...cotton balls swabbed with vaseline and inserted in ur ear(s) before washing ur hair, taking a shower, etc. Better than ear plugs to keep the water out (my new ENT advised me on that)....
I have my ears cleaned and drained every 4-6 months, have allergies also, along with the ringing and musical tenitus (sp).....avoid getting too much wind in ur ears also....the best advise I can give you is to "love" ur ears and whatever hearing you have left...

No insurance?...try to get Medicaid or Health Dept.

Maybe you have TMJ? Or an infection ? Can you get health insurance from your state? What about free or low income clinics do you have any near you?

Try at county hospital they offered uninsured patients. County hospital social service might help you. call in and ask them in your county services.

Avoid a "City" hospitals, they ask for co-pays up front payments (on your outpocket medical expense).

ugh I'm so confused, I googled ENT offices around me and I'm getting plastic surgery doctors in my search.

This is how i became hard of hearing as a child. Fluid buildup behind my eardrums due to allergies.

When I was in kindergarten I had a fever of 104.4 and I have complete hearing loss on my right side, but every year allergies around this time is effecting my left side which is only 60% hearing loss, but I'm sure by now its more than that. Its been going on for over a month, Claritin isn't helping. Just taking my hearing aid off really made me realize just how bad it was.

I had talked with my mom about my concerns with it and all she could tell me was "get over it, you've dealt with it before its nothing new."

It really, really hurts when you feel scared, confused and lost then the one person your suppose to look up to doesn't comfort you.

I recall having a similar situation with my first days of Meniere's. I noticed my hearing get worse around springtime. They had me on Claritin (around $100 a month) but that did nothing. Once they diagnosed me correctly, the Claritin was stopped. I had no other symptoms of allergies.

I find your mother's comments to be both sad and assertive. Sometimes parents want to tell you to "suck it up and soldier on" but that is not always the best thing to tell someone in the throes of a health situation. You have dealt with this for years, and it is not like you are throwing in the towel. A little sympathy would have been helpful. Hang in there.

:aw: Thanks that really means a lot.

Still having issues with finding a doctor. If I apply for county insurance I'll be on a waiting list for an appointment for two months. Very frustrating

People here might disagree on politics, religion, CIs, or childhood languages, but if we are not supportive of each other, the world feels a lot more cruel. Keep us posted.

Just sayin'...can't ur family loan you the $$ to see the ENT?...Seems something as important as this is an emergency and family might help.

Dunno if ur a student, or have a job....or unemployed...but perhaps get the ball rolling and apply for Medicaid....there's a waiting period for that also, so the sooner you apply, the better off you will be and able to see doctors whenever you need to....again...good luck!

call the Doctors off and make the apointment ask if they will put you on a list . if someone cancels they call you.. I am on one..

Better than never getting help.

What about getting Medicaid from your state?

I don't qualify for Medi-Cal (California State insurance) because I'm not considered disabled or a parent. Really irritating. I really wish there was a program JUST for our hearing needs at least.

My family wont help me. My own mom told me to just deal with it.

I'm just a cashier at a gas station. My work doesn't offer insurance either, I work enough to pay my rent and my hearing aid, which I am SO thankful for now even though I can't hear very well still with it on. My job is extremely demanding so I couldn't even request time off to go see a doctor, I'd have to gamble with a time frame.

My hearing is still the same, the ringing sound, the clogged up feeling in the ear... work is getting more and more stressful, I seriously wanted to punch a customer in his face when I apologized and said I was HOH he deliberately made fun of me.

I'm going to try the red Sudifed pills like someone suggested for now, see if that will help me out. I'm just scared, its never happened for this long before.

Ok so good news or somewhat good news...

I FINALLY got myself insurance and I went to see a doctor. He looked in my ears, asked me a few questions and he doesn't know whats wrong with my hearing loss... but wants me to get scan for tumors, just to see if its ruled out.....

I'm not taking any of this well, but I'm trying to not think the worse just yet. There is pressure and I've been noticing some on and off pain. I'm just trying to deal til my next appointment which is June 24th.

I'm just a little bit scared.
