Across country, GOP pushes photo ID at the polls

I would've preferred Biden. *shrug*

Joe Biden is a serious mother. You have no idea what you're yapping about.
You're supposed to put a :laugh2: at the end of the post to show that you're kidding. Otherwise, people will think you're serious.

This is a hard one because some poor people don't have ID's, believe it or not. And since a lot of poor people are likely to be black or Democrat, GOP is capitalizing on that to make a law banning people without ID's to vote.

But the thing is that we don't have evidence of voter fraud that can change the outcome so why bother?

Because a single illegal vote can change the way our country works. Our forefathers (and a few foremothers) fought valiantly in war to protect our right to vote. Why should we not seek to protect the ballot box from fraud and illegals?

It is not a Republican master plan to eliminate the poor from voting. It is a plan to require a voter prove they are legitimate voters. If the Democrats need illegal aliens' votes to succeed, then they need look within to figure out what went wrong with their party.

Here is another thought for you: Why should we require people have driver's license to drive? What does it prove? Bad drivers proliferate the roadways, and it costs money to test them, issue licenses, keep licensing offices open. Then we make speed limit signs and hire law enforcement, but everyone drives as fast as they want. Why bother?

Really? Cite a case of that happening. I haven't heard of a case due to voter fraud. Your claim that our forefathers fought for our right to vote is absurd. Do you realize that we had absolutely no ID back then?!?! Anyone could come in and vote, it was all based on honor code. (besides there was no photography back then!)

Driving is not a right, voting is. Bad analogy.

Back then, most poll workers personally knew the voters in their area; they were their neighbors.

Yes? Just one? It's like saying to a class of 30, "If one misbehaves, everyone in the room gets punished too."

Our state will provide them for free. Previously, they cost $5.

Without ID, how have they been accessing benefits and services?

Here ya go: Secretary of state checks licenses, voter rolls | KOB.com
You may also want to read the article Reba put up. And yes, some elections do come very close, even within just a few votes.

We also had an honor code that people wouldn't kill the President, but it kept happening, so we got the Secret Service to provide protection. It's called changing with the times. Also, the city of Chicago doesn't lend much credibility to the honor system.

Driving is not a right, voting is. Bad analogy.

The "good old days" before IDs are also the horse and buggy days. People can come from anywhere and forge some documents. I could hop on a plane and vote in Hawaii tomorrow if I know what to do, have the desire to do it, etc. Why be naive? It happens. I cannot prove it does happen any more than you can prove it does not.

The driving thing is not related, but it seems to fit better than you are giving it. Yes, voting is a right guaranteed by The Constitution. Driving is not. If you look past that part of it, there is a reasonable correlation there. Pretty easy to look at it from a narrow viewpoint and dismiss it.

Now look who needs to work on analogies. I've never cheated at the polls and I don't feel punished if I have to expend the labor necessary to drag in my driver's license. It gives me confidence in the voting system. Having common-sense requirements is not a punishment.

For what it's worth, Mexico, a country with far more poor than ours, uses a pretty sophisticated voter ID system, with a photo and fingerprints. It works quite nicely.

What makes you think they get welfare? Not all poor people get it. I've met poor people who aren't on welfare.

Oh my god! Look who's talking?!?!

People whine about census surveys which are actually designed to benefit us all.

People whine about federal ID which is no different than state ID.

So, please say again... you don't feel like you have to expand your labor? Do you drive? DL is a valid ID, for your information. A lot of poor people dont have DL and as a result, rarely get ID although they are encouraged, it's not compulsory.

Please, don't give me bull.

Yeah, I remember that movie. I liked it, but then I was about 9 at the time.

People whine about census surveys which are actually designed to benefit us all.
Huh? I mean, I remember people whining about it, but how it relates to this topic... huh?

People whine about federal ID which is no different than state ID.

I said I don't feel punished if I have to bring a photo ID. It's not a big deal to bring one in (the stuff about laboring to drag in my DL came with a touch of sarcasm). I'd be fine with the state spending money to give the poor free state-issued photo IDs.

Please, don't give me bull.
I don't give bulls away. I ride them until they're too tired to stand.
