When I registered to vote in Iowa, I got a mail in ballot. I didn't have to drive anywhere to show an ID to get one.

Anyway...maybe it's hard for you to understand that getting an ID to vote is a barrier, but *shrug* to millions of Americans, it is.

we have millions of illegal immigrants. I certainly don't want them voting.

We get mail in ballots in Iowa now also. We just go to the voting place a few blocks away. I don't understand why they keep sending them.

So Jiro, does this mean you're opposed to immigrants without papers voting? What about green card holders? Those with visas?

And what about places where immigrants can vote in municipal elections?

Yeah, I used mine twice because first I wasn't sure if I'd be in town or not...the second is because of a work situation. Getting to the polls on time and handling an infant would've been a pain in the ass.

first of all.... I said ILLEGAL immigrants. They do not have rights to be here. They do not get to have same legal rights as legal immigrants (beside rights at legal proceeding).

why would you want illegals to vote?

Show me some proof that non citizens voting is a problem.

I never said anything about "non-citizen". Beside - Voter Fraud is mainly committed by American citizens.

So do you mind if people with work visas vote? Just curious.

*shrugs* So the fears of "illegal" immigrants voting is...silly?

The ID card is free, and if they already have a driver's license or are 65 years or older, then they don't need to get one at all. Many people have the ID card anyway because they've been using it for ID for years before the voter requirement. It's a common form of ID.

People in SC can still get ballots in the mail. There's no hindrance.

What are the requirements for a voter ID card?

yes I do mind. They have no legal rights to vote. Why would you want a foreigner to vote????? Do you want our country to be influenced by foreigners who have absolutely no best interest in our country?

they can't afford ID? c'mon.... it's what? $10? it's usually less than $20.
In SC, the ID card is free for voters.

beside - if they're so poor to obtain ID... then they're too poor to even travel to voting place and back.
They can get rides to the polls or vote by mail, at least in SC. In our poor urban areas, polls are mostly within walking distance. People with disabilities can use the free bus service.

same as all over - you must be American citizen. at least 18 years old. not a convicted felon.

I'm not answering for Jiro but for myself. Non-citizens don't have a Constitutional right to vote in American Federal elections. Why should they? It's not their country.

And what about places where immigrants can vote in municipal elections?
Are they legal residents of the municipality? Do they meet all the legal requirements?

SS card !
That's not a picture ID. Also, there are times when you want to show your ID but you don't want the other person to have access to your SSN.

Did you know that originally Social Security cards were not supposed to be used for identification purposes? Until 1972, it was printed right on the cards, "not for identification purposes."

which is why recently - the colleges switched to generated ID # for students.

No, the non-driver ID and driver ID in Alabama cost $23 and good for 4 years.

Not true, there is polling center that near to homeless shelter in Birmingham but only problem is if ID with photo is required so birth certificate will be no longer valid as proof of identification for voting.
