Thanks all for the well wishes

The funniest thing is that the ITP has little to no math in the curriculum. Which is a blessing for me, having dyscalculia, the least amount of math the better for me.

But you better know your number signs, it is essential in everyday conversation and function. Think of how many times you call up a number in everyday usage, it will be roughly the same in a signing environment.

for some reasons he wear them everyday. They don't look comfortable .. flat as a board inside. I called them military boots because I remember him wearing the same type of boots for the national guard (his documental paper I have says army reserve, but whatever)

but anyway, I have always called them military work boot since because he wear it for work, military, and at home.

ah gotcha! and yes you are right - it is flat as a board inside but it gets "molded" to my feet and your dad would say same. I can just add one of those "Gellin'" insoles but nah! I got used to it.

You know who's the REAL MAN? my dad. Lot of hikers these days have some expensive $300+ boots that are designed with extreme comfort and grips for "hardcore" hiking... and has all these "tech" like Goretex waterproof material, impact-absorbing cushion, etc. etc. but not my dad. This is what he wore for extreme hiking for volcano mountain and some tough mountain.

I know... I hate taking care of it so I keep try finding *excuses* for not doing it. I've been hooked watching winter sports on TV and Vancouver Olympics is getting closer too... so I'm watching TV all day long

For some reason signing #'s aren't a problem for me. I don't know why.
Reading #'s, writing #'s, telling time on a analog watch and doing any math higher than simple multiplication (and I need help on the higher tables) and I am in deep.

Fingerspelling comes easy to me as well....though I have to work on not closing my eyes when I do it. LOL It's gotten to be a bad habit, I think. I see myself in a mirror spelling everything out.

Got a question about dyscalculia.

If a person has real trouble with math, and has to review and review and never seems to get it, her reading is terrible and comprehension is no-where, but she otherwise seems to be doing fine, should I be really concerned. It took 6 years before she understood what multiplication meant, and she still has problems and now we are trying to do fractions and she has the "deer in the headlights" look in her eyes all the time. To get her to manage basic math, she used manipulatives (macaroni, buttons and M&M's). For the fractions, I have used different shapes I cut out and had twelve of the same same and had 1 whole, then 2 halves and 3 thirds and on down to twelvths. She seems to understand for the one day, then next day or later in the same day, she doesn't remember and doesn't understand. She's 15.

yep, he got to be tough if he can wear those boots on hiking . Handsome guy too. :)

Kristina, this is a bit off topic here but what is happening on January 27th anyways?

I start my ASL class with the Deaf Service Center in West Palm Beach, FL!!!

It was supposed to start on 1/26, but it seems so many people registered and instead of turning them away, what was supposed to me just a 2 night a week course, one in WPB and one in Delray Beach (20 miles south) is now 5 nights a week, 3 in WPB and 2 in Delray.

I will be the only deaf person there. The instructor is hoh with hearing aids and a CODA. He works for the company offering the class. He is also an officer with my deaf club. He said it would be a pleasant challenge to teach me as will be providing me with videos of the classes that are captioned. I will get them on Saturday as he is providing the videos from all classes in case there is a question someone asks that will benefit me. He is also providing copies of his notes as well as course materials. All this for the fee of $75.
