A Motorcycle Thread About Absolutely Nothing!

yes yes - my another upgrade project.... The Touratech Upgrade... it's very expensive and I got very lucky to get my hands on used parts at dirt cheap price! I bought 3 parts -

1. Touratech Chain Guard - $105.30
2. Touratech Rear ABS Sensor Guard - (comes together with #1)
3. Touratech Rear Brake Master Cylinder Guard - $29.95
Total price: $135.25

And I bought them all for... $55!!!! :-o

I've always hated my bike's plastic wheel cover and chain guard. It's very unsightly.

now I'm negotiating with this guy to buy his Touratech Footpegs for $45. The market price is $123.80. I want this one because it's wider. My footpegs feel like I'm standing on a broomstick

My biggest goal is to get my hands on TRAX sidebags at lowered price. I've been patiently waiting for a year or so.... It's about $700 :( Once I get these sidebags... I'm gonna sell my Gobi luggages.

so I got my new biker friend to get into adventurous spirit of motorcycling. He really loves the BMW F650GS (new version of my bike but it's got 800cc and mine's 650cc) very much... much better than his Triump Bonneville bike because a while ago, I took him out for a NYC run in crappy rainy weather. Since I pushed it to the limit, he was thoroughly impressed with its true capability and maneuverability.

He asked me to take him for a long-distance trip so we're planning to do West Virginia ride in 2 weeks because I told him that he needs to get trained in it. So we'll do some few-hours test run to west NJ or maybe Philly this weekend so that he can do bunch of trials and errors and figure out what works or doesn't work for him in terms of functionality and comfort.

I bought 2 books - "Against the Wind" and "Going the Extra Miles". Both by Ron Ayres. He's a seasoned Iron Butt endurance rider and I wanted to learn more to get some tips on long-distance riding.

I could use some of those tips for tomorrow and Saturday.

I don't do well on long (to me) rides. I think my age is catching up with me, or something. :(

Tomorrow afternoon/evening we ride to the Beaufort area to join an escort for Wounded Warriors. After that, we'll be attending a benefit concert in Beaufort by the LT Dan Band (Gary Sinise).

Lt. Dan Band - Concert Schedule

We ride back to Charleston Saturday morning so we can attend the opening ceremonies and all-day festivities at the Scottish Games. We're going in the cage for that since we have to carry two other passengers and folding chairs. It might rain on both days. I'm paranoid about riding in the rain.

Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation

I saw it featured on TV last week. If I was still running, I would love to do this.

"On September 11th, firefighter Stephen Siller had just gotten off the late shift at Squad 1, Park Slope, Brooklyn. He was on his way to play golf with his brothers on that bright clear day when his scanner told of the first plane hitting the Twin Towers. When he heard the news, he called his wife Sally to tell her he would be late because he had to help those in need. He returned to Squad 1 to get his gear, then took his final heroic steps to the World Trade Center. When Stephen drove his truck to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, it was already closed to traffic . With sixty pounds of gear strapped to his back, he ran through the Tunnel, hoping to meet up with his own company, Squad 1."

NYC Run

I saw on the video, several participants run in their firefighter gear. Wow!

Last Saturday, TCS and I had our "official" portraits taken for our church photo directory. They were taken by a professional photography company that came to the church for a couple weeks to take formal portraits of everyone. We were encouraged to bring props (musical instruments, pets, books, toys, etc.) that represented our interests.

TCS brought his bike. He rolled it into the building where the photography studio was set up. We wore our Patriot Guard Rider denim shirts. We liked the pictures, so we also ordered some for our Christmas cards.

No, Jiro, we didn't wear all our gear for the pictures. There's not much point in getting portraits done if we're wearing helmets. (For the ride to and from, safety gear, yes.)

The photographer took a cool shot of TCS from over his shoulder so his face reflected in the side mirror.

The background is all black cloth, so the pictures are very dramatic looking.

ooohhhhh now THAT explains why we had a Tunnel Run last year. wow interesting. it's amazing because tunnel is very suffocating to run in because of heat and fume *gagging* but for running event, they block it off to thoroughly clean it and pump in more air.

I've always wanted to do that! a professional photo shoot of me and the bike

no big deal about not wearing ATGATT cuz it's for riding, not posing

On this ride, I'm worried about the weather. We might have rain, plus we'll be riding part of the time at night.

My other issue is potty breaks. When we ride with a group, we can't stop for my convenience. :giggle:

My feet and ankles swell, too. Sometimes, on the ride back, I can't zip up my boots all the way.

I'm just getting old. :(

You guys need a trike now and a rule to never ride after sunset! :D

be careful!

oh gosh.... this has been my biggest issue for road trips. I needed more frequent potty breaks (usually every hour or worse.... every 30 min) and I don't know how I'm peeing like niagara falls when there's more outtake than intake :ugh:

so what I did is not drink any caffeinated liquids, coffees, or teas prior to and during the trip. These drinks are very diuretic. I stick with strictly water and gatorade if it's sweltering outside.

in my books - it said that for this Iron Butt rally, the riders usually wear "pee bag". This one is the most popular method. eeeeewwwww!

have you tried elastic socks? something what diabetic people wear to lessen swelling in their legs/arms.

what's the cause of your swelling?

I used to have a harley when I was married to a biker. My biggest issues were sore bums, bugs in my mouth and passing trucks. After going to a biker fest for three days, I promptly gave up riding motorcycles altogether.

bugs in my mouth and
bandana over your mouth or taller windshield or full-face helmet.

passing trucks.
middle finger. or just ride faster :)

but since there's passing trucks... that means you were on interstate or major highways. I usually avoid that for road trip.

:(

wait till you try either Japanese or BMW touring bike :)

I would love to get a trike! It's going to be years before we can afford one. :( We barely managed to get the bike we have. Now that I'm laid off, it's even worse. Bah!

We (the PGR) stood a flag line for the visiting hours of a deceased WWII veteran tonight. One of our members had a beautiful older Western style red trike. He had lots of brown braided leather trims, and for his footrests he had real horse saddle stirrups!

lol! I wish you took a photo of it!

dang... that is actually clever.... I should incorporate that in my touring bike if I ever get one

Oh, yeah, about after sunset.

We rode home in the dark tonight.

We will be riding after dark tomorrow night. The LT Dan Band show doesn't even start until 8:30 p.m.
