A Gun Thread About Absolutely Nothing!

Either air gun or .22

Jiro said any, that is because if one is very rich then it won't matter much. The point of choosing air gun and .22 is practice target. These ammos are one of cheapest ammo you can get. Also if one gets reloading system, it gets cheaper.

I could get box of 100 .22 for 12 dollars compared to box of 12 gauge shotgun which could cost me 20 dollars for just 25 of them. You could shoot in your basement with .22 short or air pellets, any ammo greater than that is not safe for small basement.

For air gun these pellets you could buy 500 of them just for 8 dollars.

Don't worry about the value, most guns don't depreciate their value UNLESS if one mess up the integrity of gun or not taking care of it.

Which gun is best for beginner?

I was helping our elderly neighbor go thru stuff as she prepares to sell her house and move out of state. The small Italian pistol was in a purse, and the Belgium FN (from WWII probably) was in a manila envelope, taped shut. Both were unloaded. They were both in her Lane cedar chest (blanket or "hope" chest), with the linens. She found the purse in the chest and said she didn't want it. I told her to check it before sending it to Goodwill because maybe there is money or jewelry in it. She pulled out a cosmetic bag from the purse and handed it to me to check. I noticed right away that it was too heavy for make up. As she handed it to me, I asked why it was so heavy. She said, "Oh, yeah, it's a gun." Calm as could be. Me:

Then, a few minutes later, she brings me the envelope from the chest. I knew it was too lumpy and heavy to be papers inside. I'm thinking, "No way!" But yes, it was another gun!

This is after out excitement of a few weeks ago with finding (and discharging) her late husband's exploding tear gas pen, in my kitchen. Ack!

oh wow! exploding tear gas pen... sounds like a Cold War spy stuff.

any of them

there's no really a "beginner/intermediate/expert" gun. you just need to find one that you feel comfortable with because everybody has different taste, size of hands, strength, etc. and every gun has its own characteristic that you may like or don't like.

Oh I see - very interesting.

My most favorite weapon is M16 - the assault rifle that I used all time in video game, especially war, zombie attack, GTA for just fun, also I know US soldiers used those in the war.

I don't know if Uzi is part of pistol - that's my favorite one after M16, also I like revolver, but it doesn't have capacity to shoot more than several rounds, however it should be enough for self defense in civilian's life.

Ammo for M16 could cost a dollar each easy.

Really, selecting firearms really based on personal preference and comfort. I like .357 over .44 but still love AR-15.

I was a terrible shooter in high school (a BB gun, target shooting lesson, once).

Wish I'd learn how to shoot. Wish I could TOUCH a gun at least once.
A real one.

UZI is classified as "submachine gun"

Oh really? It will cost $100 if I order 100 ammo.

What is difference between pistol and submachine gun?

pistol is a semi-automatic weapon and submachine gun is well... a small machine gun like Uzi

True! I noticed cheaper ammo does not fire that well as high quality ones.

depends but I haven't had any issue with cheap ammo like Wolf, Black Hill, and Blazer. They're all reloaded brass case. no problem.

Black Hill is pretty filthy. fouls my gun quick but no problem. shoots just fine. Springfield and Glock can shoot just about nearly any brands. Other gun brands especially German can be very picky with ammo brand.

I do not need high quality brand for target or IDPA. that would be a really waste of money but high-quality brand is absolutely necessary to have for self-defense - Hornady Critical Defense Hollow Point. my shotgun uses 000 Federal (LEO-version).

my shotgun is not too fond of Fiocchi shells. always jamming - Type 1.

Yeah, I have tested shotgun shells that I bought from Wally world and Gander mountain sporting too and even both are same brand and size but the quality is easily noticeable. I rather from Gander over wally world even though the price is higher at Gander. Most of the time I buy federal brand. Gander seems to have better shell quality (Brass) while same one from wally world using different kind of metal (Steel). Check it out.

right. same for Vermont and Alaska. no permit/license is needed to purchase one. but there are 50 states so I don't know all of their gun laws but I do know that only 3 states do not require permit for CCW

sorry just hopping thru this thread (bored).. and im not sure whats a CCW, whats that?
, oh i found out, conceal carry weapon...

hmm interesting!, so if somethnig happens and self defense and if have ccw, then you got a case to go thru, if nothing, you're fucked...something llike that?

Update on found guns:

TCS took the guns to gun shop this a.m. for appraisal.

The small Italian one was made 1947-55, valued up to $175.

The Belgium gun is older than we thought. It was made 1914-16, which would make it WWI era, not WWII. The gunsmith said it is in excellent working condition, and is worth up to $500. There's no way to be sure who owned it in Europe.

self-defense case is allowed in all states especially defending yourself from your own home but anywhere else... that depends on each state law. Few states are extremely restrictive about issuing CCW such as California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Illinois.

I'm not allowed to CCW in those states but I'm allowed to CCW in 38 other states. So you can imagine what will happen if I defended myself without CCW permit.
