In that post, PFH, we weren't discussing hearing loss as a single entity. We were discussing disabilities as a whole (or I was).
I would tend to agree with you regarding the hearing loss stats, though. I would never question that from anybody; as I'm not versed enough to do so.
Alright - If it was in whole... Deafness and blindness tops the total in disabilities. If I remember correctly 36mil for the deaf, and like 20mil for vision impaired..
I just checked AFB website, 25.2 million in the USA with vision impairments.
506,000 under 18.
That is about the same for the hearing impairments. Let's say 850,000 are under the age of 18 has some hearing loss...
36+25.2 million is 61.2 million people, and 1.3 million under the age of 18 has some disabilities just in these two senses.
The other disabilities - mental health, physical disabilities, etc are in a much smaller scope, so I'd have to say overall - less than 10% are from birth.
