I guess "you get what you pay for" applies for colleges too

Unfortunately, most teaching programs suck. I HATED my teaching program.

*edit

And some of those professors were sooooo not what I paid for. Okay, two. But still. Pain in the ass. Waste of time. Oh, well. Got the grade.

like i said...if someone actually got away with cheating in my class...they almost deserve the grade. man, that was a lot of effort!

will *some* cheating happen? sure. you've never said to a friend, "Shit! What's the answer to number four?"

but will enough cheating happen to change a grade? not in my system. :birthday:

there won't be any cheating in my course because I don't issue exams. I can't be fucked with it. :D

:hmm:

that will get you hired.

we have performance based assessments. i do essay exams and PBAs a lot. and questions like, "Name three main causes of war and and apply it to King Phillip's War. What caused this war?"

because then they essentially have to spit back the entire unit in five paragraphs.

if you can summarize and be succinct, then you know your material!

aaah, I had a professor that asked something like, "Specifically, what are the causes of war?" for an essay exam. It was a class on, well, theories of war. The second question was basically, "Solve the Israel-Palestinian problem without causing a rise in violence."

talk about logical thinking excercises! i loved that class.

that's how my English class was. no textbook. no exam. nothing. just write papers on whatever he wants you to write about because his department policy requires students to write a total of 15-pages per semester.

The grade was largely based on group participation.... and your writing. For a whole semester... when he grades students, he can tell if you're putting some effort in it or not. He will automatically fail any lazy student (and bad writing) without mercy. He doesn't issue A grade easily either.

my kinda professor.

barf. i hate group work.

once a professor told us we were going to write a class paper. all of us. he had a syllabus and everything.

two days later he told us the point of that exercise was so we could understand how hard it was to pass a bill through congress. :p

yeah...again...I HATE GROUP WORK. me no play well with stupid people. sometimes i've done group projects and have been paired with really great people, but i'd really rather learn by myself. i get more out of it.

*unles its biology class...bring on the group work.

Better to discuss school than to discuss "partial" meltdowns? Good thing the mass hysteria created by sensationalist journalism has not caused widespread panic.

OK, let me clear. At the west coast, it is low risk, right?

Boy, those articles made me so confuse. :(

We won't know about it till few years later that is when we will get those side effect from those fallout. Don't trust our government over this.

You seriously expect me not to Google answers on a multiple choice "college-level" quiz??

Seriously, yes. :eek3:

When I was taking my IT classes, I did the homework and computer work. The point was to LEARN.

Then, I took my tests. They were all multiple-choice. (And they were timed, too. Actually didn't leave anything in the way of having time to google stuff, so that was good.) When I was done, I got my score instantly.

Out of all 10 or 12 tests I had to take per class, I got 100% on all but 2 or 3. I couldn't figure out why my answer was incorrect on those, so I came here and asked some of the good IT guys here (we've got a few!) why, and gave them the multiple-choice possibilities. With their explanations, I learned why I got those few wrong.

If I'm gonna pay for school so I can learn something or get a degree, I want my money's worth. Not what google tells me.

Honestly, I'd expect a lot more out of a teacher. SMH.

I like your principles.

I stand by my statement. Those classes aren't worth my respect. Now, do I like taking a couple of easy classes? Sure, if they're interesting and I learn something. But textbook classes? That's not what I want...MOST people aren't wired that way. If you're gonna give me a shitty class that's less interesting than what I teach, yeah. I'm gonna Google. If I wanted to just read a text, I could go to the library.

Or...Google it.

Very low. Even in worst possible scenario low.

Now...Japan...maybe no bueno for some.

If you want to worry about something, worry about the economy. Because that's where you're going to get hit. :/

Ok, easy way out for you.

But you won't tolerate the same for your students.

I read you perfectly clear.

It's kind of hard to cheat in an IT or engineering setting... Or anything related to mathematics. Google won't save you in those classes.

Wikipedia would just betray you in the soft science courses.

Donno, never had a soft science course that was online. I research all my profs if I can...but sometimes you don't have a choice and get stuck.

Don't need to. I get you.

Obviously not.

Me: If my students get caught cheating I give them a 0.
Me: If a student cheated on a test, I'd be tempted to give him an A, since I make it so hard.
Me: I'm against multiple choice exams. They don't measure knowledge.
Me: I'm against textbook classes. People don't learn that way.
Me: If a university professor gives me a multiple choice exam online, I don't feel bad cheating. They're wasting my time. They're not teaching.

If I ever give my students a multiple choice exam online, I expect them to cheat, cause clearly I don't give a shit if they learn or not.

 Nevermind. I get what you're about, even more. You can post all you want 'til you're blue in the face, you won't change my mind. Frankly, I don't care. No need for you to waste your precious $600 breath on me.
