    CI Evaluation on monday

I had a horrid experience with Dr. Chen at Sunnybrook... Lisa, have you thought about seeing a genetic counselor for testing? Same to you Alicia. There are several progressive hearing loss genes.

    ENT Appnt

reflexes are like 50% inconsistent. I remember I had one come back normal and my audiologist wrote it off saying there is like a 50/50 chance of false positives. I have never had my audi actually test them, it only happened at the ENT clinic. Is your ENT in Toronto Lisa?

    So, new earmolds.. Help!?

I don't have the dexterity to attach the tubes to the ear hooks myself. My audiologist, or whoever is beside me at the time, has to do it... if you have your old earmolds cut the tubes to the same length (but a bit longer) than those and see how it sits. If it is too long cut off like a half a...

    access to audiolgist

I didn't know St. Mikes had ENT...I have gone to TGH, Mt. Sinai, and Sunnybrook. I find the wait to see an audiologist at hospital clinic to be really long. I see a private audiologist and I LOVE her. She can squeeze me in same day for emergencies but I never have to wait more than a few...

    Hearing Aids vs. Cochlear Implants

Ryancher and I have been chatting through email but I wanted to post here too... In Ontario our CI candidacy process is pretty strict. I doubt he will qualify, especially through the aided audiogram testing if he is recognizing and discrimination sounds. I might have a resource for you...

    got suckered into an audiogram

Mods - How much hate speech from new users is tolerated? DDU, you are offensive.

Gross -DPHL can have vestibular dysfunction. I was lucky enough to avoid that particular symptom.

Yeah I meant Drury. MTSD is the Metro Toronto School for the Deaf. It is more or less downtown - kind of midtown. It is part of the TDSB but they are pretty resourceful. There is a really great pediatric audi I can recommend who may know of some good resources if you want her name I am PM it...

Be careful with VOICE. They are kind of like a creepy oralist cult sometimes. If they find out you sign with your son they may throw holy water on you. Does ECD have any suggestions for AVT? I know they are a Deaf school but they may have some suggestions. Or perhaps try to talk to someone...

    Loudness

Think about being in a large group setting. Perhaps a party, conference, concert, something like that. You know how everyone is talking really loudly to be heard and everything just sounds loud? Nothing sounds quiet at all? That is your sons reality. Everyday is like being at that party. Does...

    Loudness

I don't if this has been mentioned yet since I didn't have time to go through all of the posts but I do want to comment... Yes, hearing aids make things louder. However, they cannot provide the same dynamic range that natural hearing can. To explain what I mean by dynamic range I am going to...

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

Supero is an older hearing aid. Like a good 3-4 generations of Phonaks ago I think. I know CDMeggers has one.

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

SSAH is frozen because of a severe lack of funding I believe.

    Not wearing Hearing aids

I normally just gesture that i am Deaf and walk away. Or if I have a hearing friend with me, or interpreter, I turn and look at them for them to deal with it.

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

The SSAH list is frozen right now. No one is getting on. It sucks.

ADP will give you $1000 towards an FM I believe. If you already get ACSD you should definitely get money from them for it. Are you one of the lucky ones with a young child who also gets SSAH? Not that it would help with FM but it is valuable funding for appropriate programming.

    Humidity Problems?

I assumed after some rat digestion they would be at least mutilated enough to not be recognizable. Perhaps the rat poop can end up in a tragic, hellish, fire in the depths of Toronto's underworld?

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

What does SOS do? It really depends. We fill in the gaps. If you need respite support we provide that with qualified support workers. If you need an advocate for the "system" we provide support for meetings with school boards, service providers, etc. If you need referrals to other agencies we do...

    Humidity Problems?

These demonic little hunks of purple translucent plastic hate me...I want to throw them off a building only to have them run over by car, consquently pushed down a man hole, to float helplessly threw a river of toilet water, only to be later ingested by a rat, then digested and deposited...

    Phonak Maxx vs. Phonak Naida

I am the executive director of an agency based out of Toronto that provides support and advocacy to the the Deaf community, called Signs of Support. Our website is down right now - or else I would post the URL. If you need anything around resources just let me know! I have Naidas myself...
