    Hi from California!

I well know what you mean by being self conscious with the hearing aid. I started using one over 50 years ago and at that time they were huge by todays standards and were not very common so very self conscious. I now have a CI on right side and HA on left and left is about to be replaced with a...

How long do you get used to wearing new BTE HA molds?

I've worn HS for over 50 years and it seems that I always have to go back a time or two until they get them to fit just right. As one mentioned, I would advise suffering for about or at least 12 hours prior to appointment so that there is some redness or irritation that the Audi can find and...

    Hi all, I am new

Welcome Trudy; Does your husband use a hearing aid on one side? Anyway, lots of things can help. I have used an aid for over 50 years now and a few months ago was implanted with a CI and wow, what a difference and improvement that made. Still have hearing aid on left side but looks like that...

    Earmolds

That is a bit steep . It's what the traffic will bear. If people stop buying/paying the price will come down. Need more competition . Do you have a Costco there ? if so give them a try.

    Why not Cochlear Transplants?!

Yes it's only old to those that have been here forever. For some of us it is a new thread. Interesting subject and would be good if not for all the bickering about implant or transplant technical stuff. I would hope that most of us can get the idea of what is being offered? Would guess/hope that...

Hearing mommy of newly diagnosed deaf son!

The difference is not more hearing , the thing is "hearing" and that is not true either, many of us "hear" but the problem is comprehension! and yes more comprehension does get us farther in the hearing world. If one has 80 to 90% comprehension they do much better than someone with 30 to 50%...

Hearing mommy of newly diagnosed deaf son!

I am an advocate of getting the CI as soon as it is medically possible for the following reasons. No.1 We live in a hearing world and whether we like it or not, not being able to communicate via sound is a distinct disadvantage. We also miss the sounds of music and birds etc. Whether its...

    Appointment

Good luck and hopefully you will be able to get a CI as soon as possible. They make a BIG difference. The sooner he starts hearing sounds the quicker he will be to make sense of it. People born with "natural" hearing don't under stand a thing till they hear and learn. Those with the implant have...

I think resolution has given some very good points.I also see no false information and also wonder why one has to TRUST some posts here. They are here for your reading and digesting. There are pros and cons to most everything. I think resolution's comments have been informative and I don't see...

    Transition from analog to digital

Stephie; First I wish you lots of luck with what ever you come up with. I used analog aids for years then digital and now with CI. I am a retired teacher and have an idea what you are facing. Not fun! I just wish I had the CI when I was still teaching, I might still be teaching if I had. From...

Hi! I'm Carmen, and I have some questions.

Well thought out and interesting read Alicia. Some very good advise. Just to be picky? The CI changes the sound into electrical pulses which are then sent to the nerve endings in the cochlear and the brain interprets sound. I believe in a normal? ear the small hairs in the cochlear move and...

    Greetings and Salutations!

I believe we are all talking about communication ? By far the majority are in the hearing side of the equation. Therefor anything one can do to improve communication should be or is important. From that point, learning sign as well as any aids or implants that will improve communication with the...

The road begins to hear once again!!!

Good luck and you will really be surprised. Don't get excited as you well may set there for what seems like ever before you hear the slightest sound but once you get to that point then the rest will come much faster. I'm talking about getting all the tones set to volume, then things start to...
