will we meet aliens from outer space within 20 years?

Uh....Human breed with Alien....Creepy much?

If there were a alien then we would be in the world war 3

or world peace.

btw - it won't be World War 3 because we're not gonna be fighting with each other... we'll be fighting against alien so that would mean - The Galactic War

about our radio signals, I don't think they reach far enough to get in contact with other intelligence beings. Our radio signals can only get as far to our milky way as possible so that's only in our galaxy. It doesn't reach the other galaxies so it is possible that they are in other galaxies than ours, anyway.

A few possibilities -

1. They possess technology to receive our faintest signal but we lack technology to receive their signal or even to interpret it
2. They are primitive species and do not have any technology
3. They are abiding by a Prime Directive

George Lucas already documented that one.

And besides, I am here, and I know there are others like me.

I wonder... what they look like!? :hmm:

I probably will surprise if they are "another" humans.

Radio signals travel at the speed of light. We're approximately 2500 light years from the center of our Milky Way galaxy and about 75,000 light years from the "outer edge" of the galaxy. Since the existence of radio began on Earth around the turn of the 20th century, so that's 110 years of radio signals that emitted outward away from Earth. So, the earliest radio signal is somewhere around 110 light years out. It would take 75,000 years to our Earth radio signals would leave our Milky Way galaxy.

So, how many stars are within 110 light years that may have planets?

Lots I'm sure.

it won't happen and it will never be "human-like" - the odds seem incmoprehensible. In fact we are extremely lucky we lucked out in terms of evolution and we will eventually become extinct before we ever meet other civilizations on other planets. I am sure we are the only ones with this kind of intelligence. Other planets definitely harbor life but I doubt they'll ever be as intelligent as we are.

Based on what?

How many forms of intelligence would you even recognize on our planet? Dolphins, pigs, monkeys, to name the three that most easily come to mind.

Yet you don't think intelligent life could arise? Human exceptionalism isn't backed by evidence.

All I can say is I don't think I'd want to see them in this lifetime. That is a scary thought. I don't think they would be too kind, because they probably would want something from earth, and I don't think it would be something small like a piece of candy. They can take their time working their way over here.

Humans are speciests. They consider themselves superior to all other species.

Not all of us are.

Intelligence alone makes us the most dangerous species on the planet. So, yes, that makes us the superior species on that alone.

That's a speciest attitude for we're the ones deciding what intelligence is and then valuing ourselves by it.

The animals you cited are intelligent animals but nowhere close to our intelligence. They haven't come up with computers. They haven't come up with complex language. They have no technology that rival ours.

Human intelligence is just remarkable and it is truly human. Other planets harboring life will be unlikely to be like us. Even intelligent creatures will unlikely ever come to the point where they think abstractly like we do. We can do complex math. Non-humans can't. We can conceptualize and have abstract ideas and implement them, non-humans can't.

We are relatively newcomers. And I don't think we'll last long. I don't mean in 100 years but in 10,000 years later, 'well be gone. 99% of species appear and disappear already. So why should we stay here forever? It's not possible. The climate will get worse and more hostile to us and we'll also merge with machines and lose interest in "survival."
