I just read articles in Portuguese and made my own inferences and picked up Portuguese.

i'm bowing out of this thread now so that i don't rapid cycle or get banned. i have nothing more to say.

I think wiki should be used for actors & actresses bios, fictional characters, movies information, books, and etc etc. NOT historical accounts, science informations, and etc etc. </opinion>

Yup, imdeafsowhat is just pure trolling and we shouldn't feed him. :mad2:

imdeafsowhat is like deafilmedia these days, the wolf never shut up and loves to annoy us. Ignore him, and he'll give up.

and back to topic -- about the Wiki, I'll have to ask my professors, if the wiki is a no-no for my uni course >.<

It's encyclopedia! We need an encyclopedia site because that site is mean for everybody to know everything. I repeat... EVERYTHING! Of course, the edit can be good and bad.

Encyclopedia books are always outdate on every year. We seek for something that able to keep tracking.

Of course, Education are trend to use the most source from encyclopedia in hardcopy as book. Ahh!

<laughs> I'm not that careless. I wouldn't use Wiki in a paper unless I wanted to get points docked.

The thing about college level research papers, is that in writing essays it usually is some form of constructive criticism where you must argue the facts in your paper. Note the word.. Argue.. there.

While not technically wikipedia, wikibooks offers some rudimentary barebones language courses.
Wikibooks:Languages bookshelf - Wikibooks, collection of open-content textbooks
Anyways, I very rarely use it, only when I need to look up the gist of something or define something. I've always found that a scientific website or a website specifically about the topic is easier to understand and gives a better overview of the topic if I'm trying to understand it.

OH, and as for wiki- good for looking up easy little tidbits, not good for papers and credible sources.

I do use Wiki, but only as a starting place to find out stuff, and then I move on to more reputable websites from there. But, no, I would not use Wiki in a paper or whatever.
