Why do you own your pet?

I don't own a pet.

5 cats own me. My mind, heart and soul. :)

Yep, Hudson owns me already!! :giggle: He keeps me company when I am lonely and alone.

One of my four dogs is in training for French Ring and Mondio Ring. Three others are just pets and some of them have their CGC and CD.

My little doggie is a great companion. (He's snuggled up next to me right now! and I'm home all alone for a week, so he's making me feel a little less lonely).

He's the cutest little goober.

Like hubby said, they comfort us. They are amazing for my severe anxiety attacks.

We dont own them, they own us and we're their slaves. Oh you should see them now. Hannah our youngest cat she's staring at our laptop as if she's warning us.. "5 minutes left then I will hop on the laptop!"

LilBit oh... I have to call him Lil'Brat sometimes because he knows he can get anything he wants. Just shiver his little body and stare at us with those puppy dog eyes.... oh boy it's all over for me and he gets what he wants!!

Mosey just meows and when he meows... he actually does this "M E O W!" as if each meow is spelled out by "M E O W!" you can see the fangs of his meow. He has a lazy and small meow.. like a mew and I don't accept it. I'll say "Ehh" then he'll go MRAOWW ... that I will accept it. Make him work for his treat!!

wow, yeah my siameses has all sorts different meows i can nearly distinguishes some difference not all of them but about half, and its amazing they even attempts to say 'hel-lo" with a "mew=meow" when i come home...

its interesting ( i have animals too) i like their company - better than humans...
and well interesting that we 'say comfort' i think its alot to do with a primal instincts or some linking to neoandeerthal's past of farming and hunting like we needed to be reminded of the 'natural', to pacifiy us in the worrying world of capitalism? but again pet ownership is um,..part of it...i wrote an essay about banning pet shops and impose licensing for pet guardianship in uni and got an A for it....

We wanted a dog to love and spoil...of course Tahoe is a hunter dog, and she really did killed the dumb ass ground hog on 4th of July! I was like oh SHIT! I should have video tape her but didn't. Bummer!

Now we have two dogs....Tahoe is pure breed Jack Russell terrier, boy she is so smart but devil in another way! And her daughter Tinkerbell, is Jack Russell/Pug...she is cute but dumb ass in some other way!

So they are our last dogs...no more dogs..I wanted Boston Terrier but I think twice....vet cost, traveling issue etc...so I rather 'freedom'. I love them to death and I spoils them. They do sleep under the cover! So spoiled!

I have Rotties cuz I love the multi-purpose aspect and affectionate nature and general disposition of the breed. I wanted a affectionate, large, guarding/working dog to be my partner and working companion, and to compete with in herding, cart, obedience etc.. My Rotties are my heart.
My dear old Lab, he is my sweetie too; we did get him to be a companion to our very first Rott now at the Bridge.

Thanks, this is the type of answer I was looking for. I was wondering why some people choose the breed they have.

Someone who live in an apartment and never venture out of the city is going to have a different dog than someone who is active; someone who lives in the suburbs is going to have a different dog than on a farm.

Of course, there are apartment dwellers with off-the-wall-dog because they're competing.

no problem, welcome:)
yes, what you write is true - many times very active people can live in an apt. with a really wild dog because they are competing and then the dog has an outlet for her energy, so being in a small space is do-able.
When we were looking at dogs initially, some 12 years back,we took into consideration what we wanted a dog for, the fact that we had purchased the house with a fenced-in yard as part of the planning to get a dog; based on what we -very specifically I - wanted, we contacted specific people and did things involving specific breeds. We met with people, went to shows, looked at shelters also. I wanted a dog with very certain abilities and size as described though.
I think it's very important to really investigate when getting a dog. Or any pet.
so as you say, consider whether you live in city, on farm, etc.

my client study vet study behavior on pets reason job vet! she is very good smart study lots of evaluation great pretty sound, they expert to skills lots of hard work pets!

My son begged me for a cat so we adopted one from the SPCA. Was pleasantly surprised to find out that the adoption fee included vaccinations, a microchip and spaying. And it felt good knowing I saved a cat from probable euthanasia. Animal shelters across North America euthanise millions of animals every year due to lack of enough people adopting (and neutering their cats and dogs) and funds. Very sad.

Also because there is nobody cuter than Joe asleep with his sock monkey collection. :)

My ex and I had saved a litter of 5 kittens, and we had to give the males away before more kittens appeared. My ex refused to spay/neuter any of them. So out of 5 we had 2 females. Della, a small gray tabby & Myst, a sleek muscular black.
My son attached himself to Myst, she was his cat. Unfortunately, Myst & Della got into a fight and Myst had a large bite taken out of her left back leg. Neither my heavy suggestions or my son's pleas would get my ex to take the poor cat to the vet. My ex-father-in-law finally took pity on this cat and unfortunately she had bad Feline AIDS, as well as a bad leg infection, she was put down. My son & I will never forgive my ex for not getting the help for Myst sooner cause the vet said it could have been prevented.
I promised my son that he could get a kitten for his 8th birthday. And we went to Bide-A-Wee, a local Long Island private no-kill shelter. It so happened that there was a kitten that matched what Myst looked like and she went straight to my son. The rest is history. :)
