Why do people call America FREE when it's not?

I don't believe that quality of life chart that leibling provided. Washington, DC can't have better quality of life than Seattle. The crime there is MUCH higher than Seattle and many other reasons. It's all statistics and it can be wrong sometimes.

San Francisco has a MUCH higher cost of living than Seattle, too. It's misleading..

Yes, I has to agree with you that each author have his/her view. I noticed that they have different opinion when I visit their websites.

I beleive you because you live in Seattle and know what it is about. Bavaria, southern of Germany where I live is not on the list because the area where I live is not city but town... I know where I live is best place and safe children upbringing with a very little crime than some cities like Düsseldorf, Berlin, Frankfurt, etc. I disagree that Düsseldorf and Frankfurt is 6th and 7th best place than Nürnberg and Munich.

Urban Legends Reference Pages: The Microwaved Pet

I am speechless after read those snope.com because I never heard in my life about the dry pet in the microwave. We use towel to dry our pets until we heard the happened about a lady and her poodle for a first time at years ago. She sued the microwave company and won because there're no warning label on microwave. This situation spread out to the world. A lady would sue meida to make herself millionarie for defamatry but she doesn't. :dunno:

Well being honestly, suing someone for this kind of stuff is quite ridicilious. Like what if I use the glass bowl as a cap on my head then it broke on my head and cut my skin on my head, then I am going to sue the company who made the glass bowl for not putting on the warning saying "Not for clothing". *sigh* that's so fucked up..

Did you read the link? It says the story is lore and legend--it is FAKE, FAKE, FAKE!

It doesn't say false or fake but correct the rumor.
It says the story is "lore" and "legend". Lores and legends are fake stories that get passed down, over and over again, until some people begin to believe them.

The entire context of the Snopes' explanation shows that it is a long-time fake story. If you read the entire link you will see that.

Bottom line: there is no warning in American microwave ovens against microwaving pets.

Have you check all brand of microwave? Every brands have different warning labels.

Microwave is BIG difference from traditional oven, like too fast to be bust out in microwave.

Then why don't you show us a warning label that say it *waiting*

Heh, heh, true!

Maybe there should be one warning label that covers every situation.

"Warning! If you are too stupid to operate this equipment safely, DON'T TOUCH IT!"

I know, I am getting sick of American bragging, about their freedom country!!!

American people had to wait till 21 to get their freedom life, where we are allow to drink earlier.

We are allow to carry beers and wines in the car, but it is illegal in USA as they MUST lock it up at the boot (truck).

Some criminals put to death in some states by law, in my country, we don't do that.

American will be label as sex predator for life if they are dating to any 16 years old girls.

All american boys aged 18 must draft with army registrar, we don't.

It is just silly myth about America's freedom.

you have some mislead here. :)

If USA is freedom then...

Homosexual marriage need to be legal in all states.

USA isn't freedom in general but there's federal controlled, not enough to make states to have rights to decide, plus there's some freedom on other side like Seq said about kids.

USA is people's choice who they vote to have legal and illegal. Be glad, there are only two location of US allow. There are only 5 countries have whole country allow to have sex-marriage because of people vote. Not you. You can't being selfish! It's FOR people!

We're not allowed to use our cell phones here in Australia when driving either. It's due to safety concerns, which is fair enough.

America is not a too bad place to live (although I have to say, I've never lived there). It comes 8th in a UN survey of best places to live out of 177 nations UN report on best places to live in the world

Maybe we should count our blessings to live in countries where death in childbirth is not common and where our children do not often die from preventable diseases.

that kinda make no sense to me. Are you tell us that US should have add strict law that we shouldn't use cell phone while driving, that make more strict and less freedom?

The world’s best cities are still in Switzerland

A report by Mercer Consulting

3 April 2007:

Zurich and Geneva are the best cities in the world as far as quality of live is concerned, says Mercer Consulting in a survey published in April 2007. Vancouver (Canada) is placed third, followed by Vienna (Austria), Auckland (New Zealand), Düsseldorf (Germany) and Frankfurt (Germany). Paris, London and Madrid are in the lower half of the top-50 table. Overall, Baghdad is not surprisingly the lowest ranking city in the survey.

EIU names Vancouver, Melbourne and Vienna as 'best' cities in the world

Other cities in Europe and Australia continue to dominate the top end of the rankings for overall quality of living. In fact, there are very few changes in the top half of the 2007 table. Auckland and Düsseldorf share joint fifth place and score 107.3 points. Frankfurt and Munich follow with scores of 107.1 and 106.9 respectively. Bern and Sydney both score 106.5 points and share joint 9th place. However, Paris is only ranked 33rd, with London in 39th place. Madrid improved from 45th, in 2006, to 42nd place in 2007. Oslo gains five places at the expense of Dublin, which drops to 27th place.

The analysis is based on an evaluation of 39 quality-of-living criteria for each city including political, social, economic and environmental factors, personal safety and health, education, transport and other public services.

Baghdad remains the world’s least enticing city for expatriates with a score of 14.5. Other low-scoring cities for overall quality of living include Brazzaville in Congo (29.5), Bangui in the Central African Republic (30.6) and Khartoum in Sudan (31).

The survey makes clear that in recent years, the gap between low-ranking and high-ranking cities had widened. “While standards have improved in some regions, there remains a stark contrast between those cities where overall quality of living is good and those experiencing political and economic turmoil,” the authors say.

City Mayors: Best cities in the world (Mercer)

Why you mention individual city not whole country? This thread is about country and free

Those made me wonder which country treat deaf people the best.

What does that mean? Well, I mean where deaf people can get good education, drive a car (own a driver license), get a job, get married, have a family, and etc. One where they are allowed to fight against discrimination and opportunities to make a change in the society.

Those are a general idea.

Do anyone have list of which countries treat deaf people the best? I think it's America based on what I have read and heard...unless I am mistaken.

GOOD POST

doesn't American deserve the praised that have done to us deaf, eh?

I thought this link will be interesting for you. It's the map with legend how much countries around the world have rights or illegal of homosexuality.

I am very surprised that South Africa country actually legalized gay marriage!

Vote has nothing with that, there's many conservative people in anywhere, that claims to against on gay marriage. For me, I want gay marriage to be legal as default, just for nothing, such as leave it.

How is sad? Some people aren't respect my personal like gross out at me for being gay.

Yeah other people actually just pulled other people's opinion into their problem. Including myself :(

Really?!? I thought England treated deaf people horribly, and it seemed like they treated gay people even better than deaf people in England, which is opposite from what's occurring in America.

But again, I don't know many pros/cons in other countries which is why I was asking.

It wouldn't surprise me. I don't think the old/disabled are treated well and it gets worse because a lot of services for deaf/elderly are being shut down now due to lack of funds :pissed:

Not that I have much to compaire it with as I've only lived in England apart from when I was visiting my grandparents in France but I did break my arm twice in france as well as breaking it once in England. The health services in France were so much better. It felt like being in a hotel.

After the way mum was treated by the National Health Services I think very little of them. My mum had a curable cancer but because of the long waiting lists she died after only 4 years. I went to offer to donate blood today but aparantly they don't want blood from a deafblind person. :pissed:

Also I think USA rehabilitation centres for the blind are better. In England it's down to the social services but they are useless. If I ever lose the rest of my sight and need to be trained to use a braille display I'd just have to travel to USA for that.

Yeah, it's not always accurate so you know that. :)
