why are American health care so expensive...

Kff.org subsidy calculator shows this for me and I find it to be quite rediculous.

Oh wow, shame on VA government for not expand the Medicaid.

If I understand this, if I don't sign up, I get a sizeable penalty/ fine, which I can't afford to pay. If I do sign up, I apparently pay 108.68% of my annual income. Either way, it looks like I'm screwed here, so I guess I'm just not going to sign up and ignore the penalties/ fines later on.

I tried changing the zip code to different places around the US, this was the cheapest of the places I compared it to.

a deeply flawed understanding of health insurance. it's not the same as car insurance.

having a car is a choice - something that you have a full control over it including accident, speeding, etc. having a disease is not a choice and you don't control what happens to you.

it's a social responsibility that we all should take care of each other if a person gets sick. that's what villages/tribes have been doing since Day 1. It amazes me to see that the thought of taking care of each other disgusts us.

the reason why the medical cost is rising higher and higher is because they simply can. the hospitals and doctors set the price as high as they can because we would pay for it anyway. this malicious act ought to be outlawed.

Obamacare is designed to keep the cost low and to make it competitive... and to deliver a peace of mind for us all.

It does not feel like a peace of mind when health insurance is mandatory ,
people should not be force to get health insurance. It feel more like a threat!

My ex husband worked for Walmart and when I was not able to work as health aide anymore I had to go on my ex insurance . Walmart was the that decided what kind of treatments I could get not the insurance company .
I wonder if this will change will the new health bill? Walmart should not be deciding what DR. a person can see.
I am under FEHB (Federal Employee Health Benefits) and it doesn't allow ex-spouses to be covered. You are lucky that it allows you to be covered if you are divorced from him. Maybe you were talking about before divorce?

OK, if you don't have a health insurance, how can you pay for hospital bills (suppose, $150,000)?

It says your income is 20% of the poverty level? If that is correct you make a hell of a lot of money.

um... then how did you feel about being forced to pay for sales tax, income taxes, social security tax, Medicare/Medicaid, etc.? you have been doing it for years.

My hubbies job is dropping Health Net as one of our insurance choices. Luckily we have more choices now and we get basically the same coverage. It's going to be $5,500 less per year. More competition, lower rates.

How is an annual income of less than $2500 a hell of a lot of money?

The news reported that many websites all over USA like the one you used are malfunctioning as of right now. This shows evidently that it erroneously made calculations. Annual income = $2,304 and Ins premium = $2,504 for one year WTF?

I hope so, that is one huge malfunction. Safe to say, I'm not signing up until I can see what it will cost and if the cost is reasonable.

Yeah, wait until it's fixed. When is the deadline if you want your coverage effective in Jan 2014?

Medical costs in America is high because people are fat and lazy in America, they have an unlimited supply of food, where in other countries youre lucky to get a loaf of bread and wait in long lines to get anything IF theres enough to go around.

That generalization isn't true for everyone in America.

I'm not sure when the deadline is, to be honest, the whole thing is rather cofusing to me.

Don't worry, I'm sure 99.9% of the people don't understand 100% of this junk... Including the people who passed it.

Clearly you realize that the first pic you posted didn't show your annual income in USD, otherwise you wouldn't have posted another one. 20%, the only info you were showing.....would be a hell of a lot of money. So why are you even asking me that when all I had was the info you showed us?

Saavik you wouldn't even have to pay a fine. If the premiums, even with subsidies is more 8% if your income the fine is waived.

Oh and the deadline isn't January, that's when coverage would start, I think the deadline to get insurance is actually in March, not positive, but pretty sure. But it was def sometime into the year 2014, not the start of it.
