Who Had an MRI?

I think maybe 15 minutes or so. I'm pretty sure it was less than 30 minutes. I'm claustrophobic and they gave me valium beforehand to relax me and gave me a button to push if I got too scared and wanted out. The only bad thing is that the valium didn't fully take effect until after the whole thing was done. I went home and slept for like four hours straight.

I have had MRI and catscan's if you can hear it's loud im deaf so just feel some vbration yea 15-30 min like terafied said

i has it before.. it took me 1 hr to check my back... can feel only is vibration thats it!!

Took MRI about 3 times at different time. It was for my head.

Between 30 min to one hour depend on. The room that where I took MRI, feel so cold and brrrrrr. the woman put blanket cover my legs. Feel shake and noise somehow. Also, pulling some blood out of my right arm during middle of scanning.

I've had a MRI done before...and indeed the room was noticeably cooler...being told not to move during the scanning process, otherwise would have to re-do the whole process over...taking the MRI of my right shoulder....the images I was able to see afterwards were clearly defined and more precise than an X-ray would have revealed...although, taking longer than having a X-ray done, I was in for approximately 45 minutes...also, it was a bit of an eerie feeling once going into the 'tunnel' for the MRI imaging and the loudness of the vibrations combined was indeed an exhilerating experience that I'd much rather not go through again!

MRI Every 6 months, probably 35 so far :)

There are 3 types
Head - For your Head
Cerivical - Neck
Spine - Back

The average time is about 45 minutes, but since there is no clock or watch, you really can't tell. If you are claustorophobic, ask for the sedation (if someone else is driving you and you even think it might be a problem, ask for it. It makes you happy/carefree and you can't drive for 24 hrs but otherwise you will seem with it to yourself)
I tend to drift off to sleep in it.
Only pain is the IV prick for Contrast.

I was on catscan, not sure if MRI is a cat scan or something, so one time for my top of body scan, it didn't take long less than 15 minutes. :)

CAT scan is different :) The CAT scan is like a big boxy donut shaped machine, MRI is this big thing your whole body can go in.

How long does an MRI Lasts?
It depends on what you need to have done.

I had MRI after car accident. Mine took longer because the equipment messed up when it was almost done, and they had to start over.

They didn't offer any Valium, and I was fine. Just very bored.

Some hospitals now use an "open" MRI scanner for people who are nervous about being enclosed, or for large obese people who can't fit the old scanner.

Open MRI's don't have the resolution of a normal MRI. So depending on what/why you're getting scanned, the Doctor may have ordered a normal one even if Open is available.

Depend on which part of body need mri. My son had mri on his knee, not long about 15 to 30 minutes. My husband had mri on his shoulder and it last same as my son. I had mri on my head and it took an hour for me. First half hour of mri then they dyed into my blood for another half hour.

Never bring any credit card or bank account near that machine. It wiped the number out. Lol, It happened to my husband when they called him to tell me not to move my head at all. :)

I've had catscans, Im not sure if I've had mris before.. I can't have a MRI cuz of CI.

If you are referring this for CI evaluation, then it won't take as long as it does for others. It took me about 1 or 2 minutes. They did say that it would take a lot longer, but it wasn't. That's why I was puzzled. They place a "blanket" on you and wait a little. I don't know what it feels like, I think I remember the light flickered a little. They only enter your head and you're done. Like Teekie, I can't have MRI because of CI. You can have limitless X-rays though. They give you an ID of things that cannot be done because of CI or in other areas besides your CI. I had an X-ray before leaving the hospital after surgery. Everyone's experience is a little different because requirements are different somewhat.

However I want to tell you that Med-El cochlear implant can have MRI up to a point which is like 1.5 tesla (the strength of the machine)...I think. Ask Med-El to be sure of it. Europe is higher. I think that the USA is contempleting clinical trials for this approval. This is more for those who will need it MRI in the future.

Nucleus will only take the outside silicone thing that hooks up the external piece. Yes, it will require surgery, just not the removal of the whole thing like Clarion.

Different things about each CI.
