two questions:

Cooliefroggie, Do you still use your CI ??? (just curious)

Teekie I knew you had ci but If I am correct you stopped using CI ?? (just curious)

As for me.. No more MRI due of CI which I still use them.... and as for having MRI in past. I recall be in under for about 45 min for my left knee.. was told not to move too much if I do move they will have to START allover again same with catscan sometime it's pain in butt... but worth it to get it over with.. I kinda am relief now I dont have to have MRI anymore because i kinda get clausophobia lately in a crowd (ever since I quit I get soo grrrrr with so many things and hormones changes since I quit smokes grr)

MRI usually take 30 minutes to 45 minutes.. It won't take very long, and you just lay on the bed, and they run some tests with the machines.

I had MRI in 2000 when I was in car accident, and i was having problem breathing, so they send me to MRI to see if I have damage in my lungs, etc.

I had MRI twice for my lower back. It took me about half hour. Yeah, noise and vibrate. It look like tunnel inside.

I think I had MRIs twice this year and the doctor wanted to check my brain and my pituarity gland because I used to have migraine headaches. :ugh:

I'm having a MRI his week. With and w/o dye. And they last like 30 mins each.

I read on the news last spring or maybe last fall. A health news reporter said that a small group of healthy patients that were sent to MRI frequency - say about 10 appointments. Their body developed a cancer that came from the MRI. Another group with one or three appointments using the MRI, they do not get a cancer. I do not want your proof, and all I can remember from the news.

I had a MRI once for my sinsus infection without a dye chemical. I refuse to get a dye from drink or injection if my doctor orders me b/c of side effect.

i had MRI on my dislocated shoulder last april. As the MRI was processed on me, i watching spiderman the movie on the goggles really killed my time ! :) they forget to turn subtitles on. i was told not to move anything so i couldnt wave like "hey come over here and get me subtitle on ! damn it !"

at least it lasted 30 minutes.

What! CI implantees can't have MRI?

Well, here we go for another disadvantage of CI! If it is true that CI patients cannot have MRI, but later has mysterious headaches for unknown reasons and the doctor needs to see inside the head to see if there might be a tumor or something that is causing a headache.

I'm talking about possibilities... suppose if we look in a room and see 2 people. One is a person who is not a CI implantee has a brain tumor and needs an MRI. The other in the same room also has a brain tumor, but is an CI implantee and just like the other person in the same room should receive an MRI, but cannot.

What will the doctor or surgeon do? Anybody have an answer?

I had MRI 3 times before CI. 2 times for my ankle few yrs ago. Another one was a week before CI surgery.

I can take MRI when the drs take the magnet out from CI. I never had that experience. I am sure one of CI implantees already have.

Probably do a CAT Scan. That's probably the only thing they CAN do. Also, a PET scan, maybe?

You raise a good point, though. Interesting point:

I'm hearing. I was born with neurological impairments that necessitate that I get Cat Scans and MRIs done on a regular basis. I'm not looking to lose my hearing any time soon, but if I do for some reason, it's likely I would NOT be a candidate for CI implantation due to my need for routine MRI testing.

I wonder what happens to people like us?
