I am doing a research paper for my deaf culture class, i have decided to do it on relay systems and how they work. But would like to also include what deaf people prefer, i know prett much what the end result will be but need facts. So if yall could help i would greatly appreciate it!

I favor VRS because they benefit both end of callers. I generally know that most hearies hate TRS because they are insanely slow to have verbal conversation with. My deaf co worker told me he don't need VP. I asked him, how many times hearies have hang up on you though TRS? His response was, oh yea! PLENTY of times! I then told him, this almost never happened to me though VRS!!! He said really? I said yes, it is free what you gotta to lose?

So, I better suggest you to do research on hearing people who experienced both TRS and VRS and get info about their experience. I can bet that the result would be surprisily favoring the VRS and their response will shock plenty of deafies.

One of hearing AD member who works for TRS was very impressed with the quality of VRS when he first experience recieving the VRS call.

In the classroom we are doing a test call through sorenson because a woman in our group works there so we will all get to experience a little bit of how its likefor each relay service, but being deaf culture its interesting to know what deaf people prefer

IMHO hearing people have their advantage... Relay service is fairly new to them, while deaf people have long know about TTY, and methods of making a phone calls for years. Making it harder for them to accept the changes.

I like using the relay thru VRS with my Sorenson VP...much faster and easier to communicate, tho sometimes I like to use relay with text because it helps keep my English in good shape than using the signs too much. ;)

like VRS better... cuz of ip sometime there misunderstood what deaf say... i hate that... so my mom like VRS more clear.. so i use that

please all, vote for which one you like better, because i need more votes, to make my own statistics

Every time I call through VRS, they haven't hang up on me, not one at all. They prefers no "GA" or "SK" and alot easier flow with it.

Safari, have RO's hung up on you before?! If so, I deeply apologize on behalf of all ROs. And if it happens again, I strongly encourage you to file a complaint with customer service.

Exactly! Thats what Im trying to tell deafies that VRS benefitted hearing person more than TRS! I mean the hearing person themselves, which I have noticed easily prefers VRS over TRS, few of them ACTUALLY told me "MANY MANY THANKS! I LOVE VRS! I hate these typing relay service". One of them had negative expression on TRS and said "Its INSANE!" This really helps me realize that those people nowadays are much busier than it was 20 years ago, and their boss would resent them on one phone call too long and boss generally don't realize it was TRS calls and got nerve up on this person. That is why many employees are reculantly accepting TRS calls.

One of my co-worker said why need VP? TTY will do the job. I asked him, how many times you got hangs up from hearing calls? He said oh yea! PLENTY! and wondering why? I told him, I almost never had hangs up though VRS. I had to call back immediately and explain clearly that this is NO TRS!!! Its VRS, that same person said huh oh, ok. then go ahead. After that not a problem.

I like the TTY relay better. TTY relay companies dont do any hardballing with other companies like what is seen going on with the IP and VRS relay industries.

Richard

Many TTY Relay companies also run IP Relay out of the same call centers. So, in actuality, they're one in the same. In fact several offer all three types of relay. MCI offers traditional, IP, and VRS. As does Hamilton, Sprint, AT&T. I don't believe Sorenson offers traditional relay at this time, but I do know they're interested in it, as their name was mentioned in the list of bidders for the Tennessee state contract.

What exactly do you mean by hardballing?

Honestly I like them all....I have no bad experiences or don't think one is better than the others...
