When preparing for travel......

Couldn't you do that by airplane? Some take moving stuff and store it in the cargo racks for moving. Maybe try that?

$$$$

Ha! A friend and I slept at Heathrow Airport a couple of months ago when we were waiting for our flights to Warsaw (hers) and Sofia (mine). Managed to find a couple of seats without armrests so we could sleep for a couple of hours.

I like the armrests. My elbows get sore, and need a place to rest. Plus, a comfortable chair with good armrests is a good chair for dozing off in.

There is that. Hmm...... I think SOME Amtrak trains allow for moving stuff to board thir trains. Not big stuff, mind you, but boxes of stuff is permissible. Saw that somewhere.

I like to sleep horizontally if there's no armrests. If I have to sleep on the floor, then so be it. If there's only chairs with armrests, then so be it. I can sleep pretty much anywhere.

Some airports are terrible! I remember it as a nightmare airport paris charles de gaulle, but nothing huge convenience, just walk, walk, walk, and it seemed to come back to the starting point .....

Each to their own. I'm just saying my arms like the armrests.

And that's just one reason I don't do airplanes. Trains are way better-- and cheaper.

Agreed! Sydney Airport doesn't allow people to sleep there overnight, as they close at 11pm and don't open again until 3am. Curfew I guess. Backpackers/travellers who cannot afford accommodation usually end up having to go to the nearest McDonalds to grab some winks while they wait for their next flight.

Melbourne Airport wasn't too bad from memory - huge lack of seating but at least I got to sleep on the floor.

By the way .... Some airports offer the ability to sleep at the airport, right in the boarding area. For example if you have a flight to dubai making a stop of more than 5 hours to take you around the city and then falls, or you rent a room, or at least I remember something like that .....
First find out whether there is opportunity at this stop of your airport!

Trains usually cost more than airplanes here in Australia. Can easily grab a $30 flight from Sydney to Melbourne.

America doesn't have any budget airlines...?

Now that's something I'd like to try on the Amtrak someday-- a long stopover, a city tour, something to eat, and hop back on.

You should check out this fantastic website about sleeping at airports - The Guide to Sleeping in Airports

Also, check with the airline you're flying with - if you have a layover of 10+ hours, they may throw in accommodation and food into your flight ticket.

I flew with Korean Airlines from Sydney to London, with a 20 hour layover in Seoul and they put me up at Hyatt Regency Incheon and I also got meal vouchers for breakfast and dinner (both were buffet style). Well worth the price, methinks!

That's interesting. Buffet style food included with the flight plan.... lovely, and definitely worth the price.

I've been to charles de gaulle airport a few times and it's pretty straightforward. its cafes are better than NYC/NJ airports

shezzbeav I know that web site! I had read a few years ago, and I wanted to take this opportunity to make a long flight, but I have not a girlfriend so rich ....:D

Agreed, although I was slightly disappointed with the Hollywood blockbusters not having English captions. Nevertheless, I quite enjoyed their collection of international films, and they had a good collection of in-flight games which kept me entertained.
