How many of you make it a point to stay awake overnight so you don't accidentally oversleep and miss your airplane or train? Because that's exactly what I'll be doing in about 36 hours... until I'm safely on that 2:05 PM Metra tomorrow afternoon. I start tonight, all the way through the early morning hours Friday, until about 9 PM that night, when I arrive where I'm supposed to.

How many of you make it a point to pull an all-nighter?

then what's the point of preparation?

you make sure you get enough sleep and don't accidentally oversleep.

Yeah, but one problem-- my nighttime meds are capable of knocking me out up to 12 hours or more, and that, my friend, is why I must do it-- for that reason.

Umm..not intentionally. I do go without sleep for 3 or 4 days at times, but not cuz of travel. And well i dont feel fatigue for not sleeping.

I hate traveling tired, but I have sleep issues. I hope tonight I get enough sleep as Friday at noon, I have a 2000 mile drive and nowhere to stop and sleep. Going to be a long 30 hours.

then do what you gotta do and whatever works the best for you.

Yup. Being awake nearly 40 hours does me no favors, but unfortunately, it is necessary, because I don't want to find my ntouch PC flooded with missed calls wondering where I am.... no worries, though-- I'll be prepared. I've done it before. It's nothing new.

Just hope you not to tierd and stay well
Not sleeping can jave effects on your health

Just be careful and take care ok?

I will. Trains are pretty safe.. Especially where there's only one track at each station, and Amtrak and frieght have to share that track, and frieght has the right of way over Amtrak. Chances are, I'm probably gonna be seeing a lot of freight trains tomorrow. :)

I have never been on a train before. But well good to know you will be fine.

Not even Metrolink, CalTrain, or even Amtrak California? One day you will, and it's a wonderful experience, however short or long it may be. I'll be taking two trains tomorrow-- the Metra and the Amtrak.

I pulled an all-nighter once for my first international flight to Samoa, as I was to be at the airport at 3am for 6am departure. Wasn't too bad as I was able to nap on the flight over and then get some proper sleep the first time in Apia.

I had to pull one last September because my train then, the Saluki, left at 8:15 AM, and it was a Sunday, and the Metra wasn't an option, so I left my house at 4:15 AM for the #151 Sheridan bus, because a ride from there to Union Station takes a maximum of at least 65 minutes to make, and I needed to be there by 6:30 AM. Turns out I slightly mis-timed my departure, and ended up arriving well before 6:30 AM. I'll use that lesson learned to better time my departure.

In 2006 I made a holiday in Morocco, but I did not know that the flight required a stop, re-embark and disembark after several hours of stop. So once I slept in the airport of Casablanca before going on a European flight ..... sleep uncomfortable but very useful for staying awake :D

Ha! A friend and I slept at Heathrow Airport a couple of months ago when we were waiting for our flights to Warsaw (hers) and Sofia (mine). Managed to find a couple of seats without armrests so we could sleep for a couple of hours.

Wish I could transport myself and my car by rail, would save me having to drive across the country.

Well, I don't have to worry too much about stopovers, as it's only a 3 1/2 - 4 hr ride on the train, and no sleeping necessary.

Couldn't you do that by airplane? Some take moving stuff and store it in the cargo racks for moving. Maybe try that?
