Ever wondered how dangerous your state is compared to all the others? Well, a recent list by Law Street organized the most recent crime data to make it easy for readers to find out, and some of the results may shock you.
The list was compiled using the FBI’s violent crime statistics for cities in America that have more than 25,000 people going up to 2012. The least dangerous state in terms of its violent crime statistics wound up being Maine, and taking the top spot was Tennessee.
This new list comes only months after a Gallup poll showing that crime rates in the U.S. have gone up in recent years, although people seem to be believe that they’ve actually gone down.
Now, with crime ticking up, Americans are slightly less likely to believe crime is getting worse than they were two years ago," wrote researchers in the report. "This could change next year if the 2013 data reveal another increase in crime. But for now, this worrisome trend doesn't seem to have caught Americans' attention," Gallup researchers wrote in the report."
Here are 10 most dangerous states, as reported by Huffington Post:
10. Oklahoma: 469.3 Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People
9. Maryland: 476.8 Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People
8. Florida: 487.1 Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People
