Ever wondered how dangerous your state is compared to all the others? Well, a recent list by Law Street organized the most recent crime data to make it easy for readers to find out, and some of the results may shock you.

The list was compiled using the FBI’s violent crime statistics for cities in America that have more than 25,000 people going up to 2012. The least dangerous state in terms of its violent crime statistics wound up being Maine, and taking the top spot was Tennessee.

This new list comes only months after a Gallup poll showing that crime rates in the U.S. have gone up in recent years, although people seem to be believe that they’ve actually gone down.

Now, with crime ticking up, Americans are slightly less likely to believe crime is getting worse than they were two years ago," wrote researchers in the report. "This could change next year if the 2013 data reveal another increase in crime. But for now, this worrisome trend doesn't seem to have caught Americans' attention," Gallup researchers wrote in the report."

Here are 10 most dangerous states, as reported by Huffington Post:
10. Oklahoma: 469.3 Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People

9. Maryland: 476.8 Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People

8. Florida: 487.1 Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People

7. Louisiana: 496.9 Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People

6. Delaware: 547.4 Violent Crimes Per 100,000

5. South Carolina: 558.8 Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People

4 New Mexico: 559.1 Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People

3. Alaska: 603.2 Violent Crimes Per 100,000

2. Nevada: 607.6 Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People

1. Tennessee: 643.6 Violent Crimes Per 100,000 People

Not surprised to see Maryland on the list. Geez

My guess?

the one's with the strictest liberal gun control laws.

I noticed Arizona isn't on that list ...

I'm surprised Illinois isn't on the list, given the homicide rate in Chicago, but then again, murders in the rest of the state aren't anywhere as high as they are here, so maybe that's why it didn't make the list.

Yes - Maryland but other 9 states on list are gun friendly.

It is about socioeconomic - poverty, job and education.

I must agree, when I moved to California, I see very less crime here compares to DC/MD/VA where I used to live for 9 years. Shel90, have you drive through York Rd in Baltimore? :Ohno:

Only outside of Baltimore...by the fairgrounds but not in Baltimore. It is fairly quiet. I never venture into the bad areas of Baltimore.

Yes, I felt safe in NoVA (VA is listed as #47 most dangerous).

The city limit of Baltimore is creepier. :Ohno:

You can see complete list above.

Arizona is #15 most dangerous and CA is #16 most dangerous.

That why I pointed socioeconomic is major reason to influence on crime, also Arizona and CA have many illegal immigrants too.

hmmm.... 8 out of 10 states are the one with lax gun laws :hmm:

Interesting California isn't in the top ten list...
