Shel, I haven't been in touch with any of my former classmates from the deaf school. I ran into several of them at the DeafNation Expo couple of years ago for the first time since I graduated from the school, but all it were just hi, good to see you, no long see. We didn't exchange E-mail addresses or anything. The class secretary wanted my E-mail address so she could give me info about the class reunion that was held two years ago - I was looking forward to that, but she never sent me any info. I was so sad and hurt when I saw several snapshots of them on the school's website. I was an outsider - probably because I didn't have to live at the school. I have myself listed on DeafVP.com for more than two years now, only one of my classmates contacted me for my number (I didn't respond - she was someone one wouldn't want to start trouble with.) The only friend from the school I keep in touch on regular basis is about five years older than I. Sorry for the vent, but you should be thankful that you have more deaf friends now than you used to have back home. And, now your brother lives in the same state you are in.Just looked at my former classmate's myspace photos. Wow, she put up new photos of her 36th bday party and I saw sooooo many of my former classmates fromt eh class of 90 and 91 in the photos. I PMed her asking her if she really does keep in touch with that many people and she said that many of our former classmates of 90 are still good friends and keep in touch and hang out. It made me feel a little resentful cuz if I had gone to a Deaf school like many of my Deaf friends, I would have had the same history with several of my friends like my Deaf and hearing classmates do. It is like I belong nowhere just because I was fucking mainstreamed. Geez...
sorry for the vent but I see my Deaf brother and my good friend who is Deaf talk about the people they know from the Deaf community growing up and I dont have that. How fucked up is that?
