I'm getting a tax refund and the tax refund is going towards car payment, what about you?

We don't get a tax refund. We pay income taxes.

I have a tax appt in an hour. I am hoping we wont owe but I have a feeling we will. :(

I got tax refund in last Feb, it's huge refund.

My own tax refund from New Zealand is only 23 cents. :giggle: What would I spend 23 cents on? two 10 cents candies?

Since I seem to be the only person who pays taxes, and everyone else gets refunds, maybe we should just cut out the middle man and I'll send my checks directly to you all.

Oh, my parent paid tax and don't get tax refund either.

I already got mine last Feburary and bought the video games with it, and I am expecting for $600 rebate someday. I don't know what to do with the $600 yet, but can't wait! lol

Good joke, Reba. But as you well know, in order to get a tax refund, one has to have paid taxes, just as you did. It isn't exactly a gummit handout.

Those of us getting refunds paid too much. In other words, the government has been using our extra money it witheld and now can't figure any other way but to grudgingly pay us back -- without interest, of course.

And don't point to all the deductions I claim as the reason, because I didn't get nary a one. From my disgruntled viewpoint, a single guy without dependants actually has many, many stay-at-home single moms and their kids to support.

In your case, you paid too little (ha ha ha, of course, that's the gummit's story, not yours) and you have to cough up the difference.

So, yes, you should send me my interest directly. I'll start holding my breath right now as I wait for it.

Oh, yeah, what I'm going to do with the money: Spend it on prescriptions medicare doesn't cover.

Not exactly.

"People who paid no income taxes but earned at least $3,000 — including through Social Security or veterans' disability benefits — would get a $300 rebate."

Also, because of EIC, some people do get back more money than what they paid in or had withheld.

Yes, you are right about that.

Married couples both working, without dependents, don't do much better.

I have as much as possible withheld from my pay but it's just not enough.

The main problem for us is that Hubby is self-employed so he pays the employee and employer share for himself, which means double tax.

Oh no, don't turn blue on me!

Bummer!

I wish it would just come out even--nothing due and nothing back.

In case you haven't guessed, I support the FairTax. :D

Despite buying a house last year and having two kids, we will owe $4,000 for 07 taxes.

We owed $2,000 for 06 taxes and only paid off half of that so now we will owe $5,000 to dear sweet Uncle Sam. :pissed:

My hubby said that we got hit with the alternative tax minimum that hadnt been adjusted by the Congress so people in our income bracket are getting hit hard.

Actually, I think that Bush is giving us more money this year... to help us with our "dying economy". I don't know if he's calling it a "refund" or something. :dunno:

Whatever money I get, I'll likely use it to pay off some dues I owe.

That's the stimulus check...

We will get that but it will automatically go towards to our balance which is fine with me.

The economic stimulus is being called a "rebate".

My rebate will be applied to the taxes I owe, so I won't actually see it.
