What is Your Pet Peeve?

Nope, that is a flat-out lie. I never said I don't like people who talk about their mental illnesses. The preson who I am talking about has not even posted in this forum lately. Therefore, your assumption (on both counts) is wrong. Remember, "ASSUME" makes an "ASS" of "U" and "ME".

Yes, I do. I have been diagnosed by two different psychiatrists as having PTSD. I take Pexeva-20 for it. Look it up. I just don't like to talk about it because most people don't know exactly what PTSD is.

you said that you hate it when people talk about their over-hyped, over exaggerated mental illnesses (and other conditions) just to draw attention to themselves. my mistake.

i'm familiar with ptsd and pexeva-20. my apologies for assuming that you don't have a disorder. i thought i remember you mentioning your ptsd in other threads, but couldn't remember for certain.

I'm used to ignorant people myself. Ignorant people generally don't listen to explanations anyway.

no, unfortunately, they don't. i always try to educate others the best i can, but if they don't want to listen to what i have to say, there's nothing i can do about it.

which gives me the impression that you are self-diagnosed PTSD, rather than by a psychiatrist

You're right. I did self-diagnose myself at 14. And then I was diagnosed by four psychiatrists and almost hospitalized for it. (The only reason I wasn't was cause my parents are opposed to hospitalization.)

Same pattern with my eye problems. I self-diagnosed them down to the details at 12 and then had six eye doctors confirm my diagnosis.

Thats why I shovel the sidewalk, and the neighbors sidewalk all the way to the trail so my mother's boyfriend and his roommate who are both blind can walk all the way to the plowed trail.

Another pet peeve... spending all day in the kitchen only to have the family show up late for Christmas dinner. :pissed::mad:

If that is your way of dealing with it, that is fine. I like to mention PTSD so that I have the opportunity to educate others on it. Just like bringing Deaf awareness, I think people need to have awareness about PTSD.

That's awesome! Damn, I wish my friends did that. <laugh>

i don't see anything wrong with self-diagnosis as long as a person follows up with a professional for a correct diagnosis. there are many people who have mental illnesses or other disorders that are orignally self-diagnosed and later confirmed by a pychiatrist or doctor.

You actually equate PTSD with Deaf awareness?

Messin with yall..

I've worked in some mental institutions in the past and will do so in the future.

Now who do I pick on.....

that's thoughtful (and responsible) of you. i wish some of the people in my neighborhood were as considerate as you!

i don't want to speak for nika, but sure, why not? it doesn't matter whether we are talking about a disability or a mental illness/condition. after all, awareness is awareness.

Well, I guess discussing it here is one way to find out what it is and if you don't like talking about it here, that's fine but there are others who have a lot of knowledge about it and most of us appreciate learning about something that we would otherwise not.
