What hearing aids do you wear

I am getting Phonak Versatas...i don't believe anyone here, or i haven't read, has the veratas. I am getting the verata powers, i am going to see if my audi can rush order the earmold for my left so that i can get them b4 i get all my extra hours for work...if not i get them on the 23rd so it's my "xmas" present so to speak lol

1. What hearing aids do you wear? 2 Starkey Zon 7 BTE (soon to be the POWER Zon 7 as my hearing has dropped since I started wearing these)
2. How good are they? I think they are pretty great. Digital, they talk to me and have so many things to tweek so they are perfect to MY hearing.
3. Do they help you hear everything you want? Yes, took a little while to tweek them exactly to how I like them, they are pushed to about the max so waiting on the new upgrade.
4. Are they uncomfortable? They are very comfortable, I hardly know they are there, very light, small and no ear mold is necessary.
5. What degree hearing loss do you have? Moderate Severe and on some frequencies profound. Seems to just keep dropping and dropping. They tell me thats what Menieres does ;)
 
What I wear

1. what hearing aids do you wear? I was using AVR Sonovation frequency compression (ImpaCt Xp) on both ears
2. How good are they? Did not help me, could not understand words.
3. Do they help you hear everything you want? I tried them for 3 weeks but I still could not understand words but powerful. It could be better with speach therapy. Because of compression of high frequency it is hard to understand words.
4. Are they uncomfortable? no
5. What degree hearing loss do you have - L- 100db R-95db
moderate sensorineural hearing loss and 250 hz, rising to mild sensorineural hearing loss through 1000hz, sloping to a moderate sensorineural hearing loss at 1500hz sloping to a profound sensorineural hearing loss through 8000hz with no response to equipment limits at 8000 Hz in the right ear.Speech recognition ability in QUIET is good and fair in the absent of visual cues in the right and left ears. wow.

Gets me through the day

I know I’m missing something – words, sounds, etc. which is why I’m on a quest to upgrade
4. Are they uncomfortable?
As long as I keep the ear hair to a minimum

Severe to profound

1) BAHA hearing Aid. Am I the only one ??:shock:

2) Very

3) Nearly yes

4) Only in case of inflammation or infection, which is very rare

5) Profound unilateral

2. How good are they?

Decent, but not good enough. My right one's been giving me grief for a year now because of its lack of moisture tolerance. Lean your head 3 or 4 degrees in any direction or take a step and it gave off an incredibly annoying loud and painful static shriek. It's gotten better since I moved out of a high moisture climate, but I still have to take that one off whenever it's rainy.

No, I rarely hear something correctly on the first try without lipreading. Inside a crowd it's hopeless. It works great for music though.
4. Are they uncomfortable?

Perfectly comfortable, I wouldn't notice I were wearing them if it weren't for my molds.

Moderate-severe. The loss is higher in the higher frequencies (human voices)

The sound on them is good but what it doesn't seem to be clear enough. Could anyone who has the Naidas describe how they've helped you as compared to your older hearing aids?

4. Are they uncomfortable? Sometimes, coz i wear specs aswel, so not always

1. Interton omega sp plus in the left ear and an interton MP staris VC+ in the right. Both are bte. I have open bore custom made starkey ear moulds.

2. They are significantly better then good, but they are not the best.

3. Pretty much.

4. Not uncomfortable, but they do need adjusting from time to time to fit properly.

5. Profound hearing loss. I have a mix of conductive, functional, and Sensorineural hearing loss.

Functional Hearing Loss
Functional hearing loss involves a psychological or emotional problem, rather than physical damage to the hearing pathway. Individuals with this type of hearing loss do not seem to hear or respond; yet, in reality, they have normal hearing.

The most important challenge for physicians is to classify this condition properly. It may be difficult to determine the specific emotional cause, but if the classification is made accurately, the proper therapy can begin.

Too often, a functional hearing loss is not recognized, and individuals receive useless treatments for prolonged periods. In turn, this process may aggravate the emotional element and cause the condition to become more resistant to treatment.

and also in the dark if i turned my head to the side i can see faces and things but if my head is straight like normal i cannot see faces etc. its weird

Me too! I can't see much by looking straight into things in dark but I can see better if I look at it sideway, I thought I was only one!
Does it look like small black fog in the middle when looking straight at things to you?

Hearing loss that's not based on something physical i.e. nerve damage, perforated ear drum, etc.

Functional hearing loss usually is the result of something psychological like with the mind and/or emotions.

thanks for the info. how do audis differentiate between functional hearing loss and malingering -- via an audiogram?

that sounds similar to functional blindness which is caused by the same thing.

Malingering, unlike functional, is a manifestation and/or symptom of a psychiatric disorder not a type of hearing loss or a cause of hearing loss.

Furthermore, audiologist are not qualified to diagnose psychiatric disorders. Audiologist, in my experiences, go on patient history, current and past audio grams, and make determinations based upon all that.

I would love to hear (haha) though, an opinion on this from a licensed audiologist .

2. How good are they? -- really good, i think. I haven't really found another hearing aid that compares to them and they no longer make these anymore :( the closest thing are the Phonak Naidas.
3. Do they help you hear everything you want? -- lol, well no. i'd love to hear high frequencies! and have better speech discrimination. i really rely on both hearing sounds and lipreading to fully understand what is being said.
4. Are they uncomfortable? -- Nah. only sometimes after i've been wearing them like ALL day, do the tops of my ears (where the hooks rest) get a bit sore. There are some sounds that can be a lil too loud to me that makes my ears "itch"
5. What degree hearing loss do you have? -- severe to profound sensorineural. approximately a 85-90 dB loss in both ears.

sounds similar to me. i was born prematurely, i weighed like a pound! and i was in the hospital for 3 months. i forget the whole story but somewhere along the line, i got sick and they had to give me meds and they were ototoxic drugs. so the cause of my deafness is either simply cuz i was premature and my ears just didnt develop properly, or cuz (most likely) the drugs. I have been wearing hearing aids since i was 1 or 2 yrs old and am 28 now. I'm wondering if I should be getting the cochlear implant.... YIKES!!! :)
