What hearing aids do you wear

I can hear it through speakers but not as well as when I use Tcoil earhooks. I love music and I always have. It's kind of ironic in some respects I guess! :giggle:

that's cool! :cool2: i'm glad you're able to enjoy music as much as you do. :)

Yeah, I get nothing in the form of speech. Well...I can hear it but it doesn't make sense. Sometimes I can make the odd words out if I know the person, like my mom, but that is very rare.

Do you sign? How long have you had your Naidas for?

Yes, I sign (badly). With my hands paralyzed, my dexterity is lousy and you have to be around me a while to understand my fingerspelling. I first studied ASL in college in the "Ex College" program (experimental, for trialing new subjects or non-degree material) almost 30 years ago. That was when I first learned I had a hearing loss (mild/moderate). I had no contact with the Deaf community for the past 25 years, though. I started taking classes again when my hearing deteriorated so quickly. I use PSE and ASL, PSE for business and with my friends who are just learning sign. I use ASL to chat with my terps and Deaf friends. My comprehension is fairly good, but I need work on my ASL grammar.

I've had my Naidas for about 3 months. I had tried DAI, FM, loops to T-coil, and never really got enough useful "information" to say I "heard" music. Now I simply crank the volume on the radio and turn up the subwoofer and feel the music instead.

1. Oticon
2. :cool:fairly ok
3. sorta not 100% accurate:D
4. :hmm:not that I know of
5. severe:dunno:

Mine is still the same old bte devices. I guess this one was less power than sumo. u have new name of design. I have no idea what is like today after I looked up in the website, I realized this company has changed a lot. Were u born deaf or what?

I was not born deaf, but I was born 12 weeks premature weighing just 2lb 1oz and spent 3 months in SCBU in 2 different hospitals where i was extremely ill with Respiratory Distress Syndrome, jaundice, renal infections, septicaemia, fits durin my first 24 hours, mild ROP, needed lots of blood and chest drains. The doctors think the drugs used to save my life unfortunately destroyed my hearing. It was either die or be deaf.
My mum suspected my deafness before I was diagnosed as deaf at 9 months old. I was aided at 14 months and received my implant in my left ear at 10 years old

At least you can sign!

Sometimes I prefer to just feel the music too. It depends on when and where. I love going to concerts but half the time I can't hear the music anyway so I take off my aids and just feel it and watch.

I have had my Naidas for 8 months now. Give it some more time it may improve still! I am still just noticing improvements!

deafteen,

what must be hard for blind and deafblind people?

i was going to say it must be harder for blind/deafblind people at night or when it is dark, but i guess you get used to it. sorry if this sounds offensive but i dont mean to, its just hard to describe

oh, okay. i wasn't sure what you meant, so i wanted to ask for clarification. :) and no, i'm not offended because it's true. not all blind or deafblind people are totally blind. in fact, only 3% of the blind population is totally blind and even fewer than that are totally deafblind.

I have just learned something new! Didnt know that only 3 per cent people are totally blind.

my sis' boyfriend has a rare eye condition. It is rare for this condition to go totally blind in one eye but his condition is rarer he will eventually go totally blind in both eyes. He has been in medical journals in the Uk because of it.

I have no idea what this condition is.

I am familiar with ROP, but I have a question for you Hear Again... It was my understanding that ROP happened after birth due to an exposure of excessive oxygen levels. Can ROP occur before or during birth? If so, how?

(ok, so that was two questions... :giggle:)
