What does Deafhood mean to YOU?

Is anyone else" Legally deaf" here? What steps taken to be so declared? What benefits?

drphil, get real LMAFAO , it is all relative to what sort of ideology you are exposed to

Not going to engage in a discussion over what *I* think is a convenience to me or to the hearing person.

However, if you would read the last line, MY not having to ask them to repeat themselves (which they would have to do if I don't have my HAs in) conveniences THEM. Have you never had anyone who sighed or rolled their eyes or said "nevermind" when you had to ask them to repeat? They don't want the inconvenience of having to do so. So I'm accommodating them by trying harder to understand them the first time around WITH my HAs.

:)

Everything you say is true. The past few days I was in charge of a crew laying the foundation of a house, and since the days were so sweltering and humid, I didn't wear my hearing aid. The other workers knew better than to run to me with every question on their minds, so they conferred with each other instead. As a result, the job is going smoothly, and I am proud of the hearie assholes. So there's an upside.

It seems to me, if you are taking that tact, that you'd better be on your toes for potential errors in workmanship, etc...

Well again we are talking about a personal Journey a "natural thing".....When I think Journey I tend to think "any way you want it, that's the way you need it". I mean we all go our "separate ways". Just look at politicians.....some go through life "faithfully" while others get caught "lovin,touchin,squeezin.....another". Sadly people post their Journey here...then when they sign back in it's like "who's crying now" rather than knowing you will be accepted with "open arms". People forget most of us come to AD for an "escape"

If we could just silence some of the negative on AD, Maybe new members would "stay awhile" rather than making an early "departure". It's sad that some members are consistently in the "line of fire". And one poster consistently has a handful of members in her sights...but "the girl can't help it" I guess. Too bad she doesn't have a more "positive touch" I believe this anyway..... and when I see all the venom on these pages I just have to remind myself "don't stop believin". I am sure others are "feelin that way" too.

As for those posters who are frequently targeted I say "be good to yourself" and put the venom spewers in your ignore box. Let them know "I'll be alright without you". Otherwise this is just a waste of "precious time"

Why is so much in quotes?

Grummer: is the acceptance of one's deafness a function of having studied Sociology-culture or having been "unconsciously exposed" to ? Oppression by the "hearing persons" one "interacts with" in daily life?

You have a point there - I first registered on AD in 2007 but when I browsed through the threads and saw how people were speaking to each other, I didn't stick around - there was so much bickering, accusations, misunderstandings, and hyper-self-defensiveness that it was a bit much. I left one post looking for deaf people from my town and didn't come back for a long time.
