What did you learn today? Part II

Speaking of work, I got off work early today, found out that BOA in my new town has an opening for P/T Teller - 20/hrs week. Perfect. I am working on a resume to upload and submit along with the online application. I hope I can make this stuff stand out to at least get an interview, hopefully. Thing is, I also suck at interviews. Really, I do. I wish I had the money for one of those job coaches or whatever that help you find a job, because I just suck at stuff like this. Probably because I am too brutally honest about myself.

Anyway, I'm going to do a mini refresher on building resume's and I will hopefully have a friend look it over and tweak it just a bit to make it stand out. She used to work at a bank, so she knows what they want to see when they look at a resume.

Bad part is, I have to do this in 2 days as she is leaving for vacation on Thursday.

The way I will handle it is this:
If they call for an interview - yay, one step closer.
If they don't call - boo, it's back to Tyson I go.

I'm just ready to get off the farm. I'm burned out, really I am, and I'm not sure I want to do a second flock of chickens for another year, plus I want to finish my studies at Uni and get out of this rut I'm stuck in.

Wish me luck, I don't want to get my hopes up for fear of this not working out (most things like this never work out for me), but at the same time I hope I am able to get this.

Good luck and pls go to the interview with this thought on your mind:

"I going in this interview because I feel that I posess the skills to carry out this job more effectively than the others."

Think of ALL the skills you have that you can contribute to their business instead of anything you are weak at.

i was told that before an interview, mentally go over at least 10 strengths I have that I can contribute to BUT do keep one weakness in mind and always say "my weakness is that I always need room for growth."

It will put the employers on the spot because they will be expecting a listof the things you "cant" do or weak at but get that comment instead which will make them take a double look at who you are.

Remember, an interview is ALL about marketing yourself.

Good luck!

very simple - you want this job? don't talk too much. answer the question in a concise manner. anything else... save it for office break time.

I may have to try that, but I also have be careful in case they spin it back around on me and say something like "What do you mean by 'growth'?" I need a comeback that's sharp and witty, yet not disrespectful, and also short.

I tried talking less, still didn't do well at an interview, tried talking more, same results. I don't think it's necessarily how much I say, but rather it is what I say and how I say it. On pen and paper, I can express myself very well. Spoken, not so well, but I can communicate to get the job done.
And just relax and be yourself. Don't try to put up a front.
Well I think I will have to for a while at least. I'm very much a jean's and shirt kind of girl, I don't even wear makeup, my hair is cut short. I'm tomboy, very tomboy. I will have to figure out a way to pass myself off as more girly than I am. I don't think BOA wants a butch in their drive-thru window, nor at their teller stations. As a teller - I am essentially the face of the company, the first, and most likely, the only contact point for the company to the general public. I am going to have to get someone to teach me how to be a girl again, it's been too long since I've done anything like this.

On top of that, I need a mega boost of confidence. I'm wanting this job while still fully prepared to return to Tyson. Either way, I am going to find a way off the farm.

If you arent comfortable with saying that as your weakness but almost all interviewers always ask this dreaded question and if an applicant say that they dont have any, then that makes a bad impression but if you list off a long list of weakness, bad idea too. Find one and like you said, talk less but not tooo little. Good luck1

I learned that my gym is packed at 5 AM. Didnt expect that.

I learned, that after reading your post, I don't wanna go to any gym at 5 a.m.

(Of course I have no gym membership so this matters none  )

(Good job for working out, though !!! :) )

I would rather not but on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, my son has soccer and when I go to the gym after work, I end up rushing him through dinner so we can make it to his games or practice on time. Not fair for him.

Newly Constructed Homes [REDUCED 40K]

This set of townhouses in Boulder will be 2.5-3m easily.

I've seen pictures of your house, shel. If it was just outside the heart of Boulder, it would be about 800,000 dollars.

For dining - for ANY restaurant to succeed in Boulder - you have to have a hell of a chef, and good prices. So, for $30/plate you can get a lot.

$20 a plate is very normal in Boulder. I'm sure that is pretty much on par with DC.

For 300k in Boulder - I don't know if you can even get much.

Just took me for a surprise. I've been hearing "DC IS EXPENSIVE" and since a friend moved there without a job he's telling me "dude, this place is undervalued, very comfortable"... I then looked arond with him on the internet and that was when I realized DC is cheap.

Maybe D.C. is cheap now because of it's horribly high crime rate these days???? I don't think you could even pay me to live there.
