What did you do today?

I had a massage in the morning, then got my nails fixed. Then went golfing with deaf club. Now just finished chopping vegetables for deaf club barbecue party tonight!

I went to work, stopped by the grocery store for some stuff for mom, then got my laundry started, and that's still ongoing. I took a shower, put on my pajamas (t-shirt and sweatpants), texted with an old friend from Tyson, made myself some coffee and two doughnuts for dinner.

That's about as laid back as my weekends get anymore. I wouldn't mind if I had to work just until 1 or 2 in the afternoon on Saturdays, but all day just wrecks any fun time as I'm too pooped by then.

Interesting you still have such an active deaf club.

Cooked a big pot of big lima beans with the left over ham bone....having them for dinner tomorrow also....just reminded myself to get some Febreze....

I had a good day today. I went fer a cruise with the sunroof open, got some sun today. Countryside in Ohio is beautiful.

Indians won two straight series. FINALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYY!!!! Even they lose tomorrow, who cares. I'd like to sweep the stinkin' Twins, tho.

We went to Deaf Awareness Day at Six Flags and had a ton of fun. It was nice to connect with others, and to see so many people signing. We got to race some young boys on the Go Carts- almost won! A great day for all. Talked to a parent, he expressed an interest in learning sign language after he saw me signing with my son. I told him I could give him the names of some websites to help them learn. Do you guys have any recommendations about some of the better sites?

Immersion or contact directly with the Deaf, either socially or in a classroom situation is the way to learn ASL. Learning sign from a website is very risky.

I did recommend classes as well.

I am looking for some recommendations about some of the better websites, since there are quite a few.

oh ok. SEE or ASL?

Agreed, besides they will need to work on their receptive skills, you just can't get that from a website. This happens from conversation in ASL. I feel like you learn a lot more, a lot faster through immersion in the language with the people who use it as their primary language.

that's why my ASL skill went from 1 to 3 in just 1 year and I only took 1 ASL class... then I kept going to as many deaf social events as I can.

Actually twice a month here, although closed in June, July , and August.

You posted something like three events in two days!

Two in one day actually. We golfer today and then had a barbecue after. You are lucky to have twice a month! I would like that. How many people in your deaf club?

Exactly. Language is meant for communication, it is naturally dydactic. One cannot learn a language in isolation. Websites are good for looking up a concept or two that you may be unsure of, but for learning the language? No.

I know you were responding to Sunny.

Our deaf club has get togethers EVERY Friday and Saturday, at the very least. Come on up to MN any weekend you're bored. :)
