What did you do today?

I went down to Bloomington to read a short excerpt from one of my stories and collect a 500$ check for winning second place in a writing contest. Woot! Not bad for a day's work.

Now I have a stack of papers to grade. :(
 
I went for a long walk in the great concrete jungle. I think i am really improving my health, balance, and muscle tone.

I hope to make a lot more progress.
 
Today, I cleaned up the mess left from the party I had last night, re-arranged my basement, started the laundry, and watched the new Harry Potter movie with my son but I dozed off in the middle of the movie. Was still tired from last night.
 
I had my first "meeting" with someone who signs. Stopped at a small hot dog joint and this guy asked me, in sign, if i was deaf (because he could see my HAs). I told him I'm learning ASL. He told me he's hearing but has no voice, so I was able to use my voice and he "talked" with his lips and hands. I think his ASL is limited. I think he told me no one in his family uses ASL :(. I know I have a long way to go to become conversational in ASL. I was glad that I had the chance to use it a little with a stranger.

Had a guy in my ASL class who was in the same position almost. He had throat cancer and was being scheduled for surgery and knew he would be unable to speak for at least 1 year afterwards (2 time it happened and more invasive surgery). Recently heard from him, the cancer had spread and they had to remove his vocal cords.
 
I had a really nice video chat with SallyLou on my P3 this afternoon before dinner.
 
Sold our old car (now that daughter moved to Utah).
Posted on FB that I sold it and now had the $$ to return home from my trip to Utah later this year.
My SIL "liked" my post. I commented back "Um? SIL is glad I have the $$ to come back home after visiting. Already glad to get rid of me? :p"
 
Had a long lifting session, punched a guy in the face for 9 minutes,shopped for paddleboards,bought groceries (hard when you live in a hotel) had a steam,walked a few miles on the beach, read a few mags at B&N and now headed to dinner at BJs Brewhouse.
 
Today... had a bit of a lie-in since I was up so late last night gaming. I went on a gaming bender this weekend. Anyway, today I got up, did a little homework, then went out to lunch at a BBQ place with my parents. Had a pretty good pulled pork sandwich & the hushpuppies were yummy! Then me and mom made a run to the liquor store - I hate how you can't just buy beer/wine in the grocery stores around here. I used to do that all the time in New York & Nebraska. Ugh, drives me nuts! Then I came home, worked for a few hours on a project I have due tomorrow morning. Now I'm just watching TV and surfing AD.
 
Yesterday - Worked then went shopping and bought my DD things she needed for softball and myself a couple of new pairs of shoes.

Then today we went to church, came home, practiced hitting and throwing in the backyard then went to softball practice at the park, came home and ate dinner, then just relaxed the rest of the evening.

Tomorrow is her first softball game and it's an hour's drive North of here. Thankfully I will have a friend or two from this town that have said they will show up so Maddie will have a Mini- cheer section going on. :D

You must tell me more about the bbq place of which you speak. I will be in the need of a good bbq fix when I move to the Metro area next month.

First of all, I do agree that DC is an awesome city. Secondly, I am surprised that you are very comfortable to be around deafies. Lastly, I have not yet met you in person if i have, i would know but I didnt. So Glad you are moving to DC. School or Job? :D

p.s. i miss dc!! i lived in DC for 12 years. :tears:
