i only got 1 ci, is it normal for americans to get 2 Ci's?
I'm not sure, but so far yes.

We get a huge box full of stuff that many people overseas don't get. It's sad really. I have everything that I need. We get one processor and one as a back up processor. Some people want the backup to be a little different color or different style such as mini-BTE/Body Worn.

I'm not too sure about AB, but I think it's the same.

Since I had it twice, I had twice the stuff.

If you got the upgrade, you don't get the rest of the stuff, you have to buy them online.

As for me - I picked the plain old beige. :) I'm not much of a showy thing, so I didn't want the colors. However, I might get different colored microphone covers...but, I have about 20 beige :-( My coil is brown. I requested brown because I knew that I always put my hair up, so beige will really stand out against my dark brown hair.

I consider about pick color is black. it's match on my style black glasses and black sunglasses. I really want to get same as your color of mic covers and clips. I love to change the color to match on clothes.
Black is a cool looking color. Like it blends in.....but it also looks sophisicated.
Beige just looks so drab and bland.......

So you must have 3 g?

I'm not sure....

But this is what I have... That's my cochlear implant and that's all the colors I have.

Pick PINK! So we can be twins  you will get 2 CI (its for if 1 broke you can use other one) so pick 1 in pink and 1 in blue! I want see what blue look like.
I'm so excited for you!

LoL! That's true! Thank you! :)

 I'm in awe! Since I never had 3G, was 3G rechargeable or used batteries?

If it only used ONE type of power, that's probably why it's cheap to just buy different colors. Freedom, you cannot do that because it has the LCD, buttons, and you can use rechargeables as well as batteries. So it is not cost effective to create so many different colors. I guess Cochlear made up for it by creating stickers and various microphone covers. I don't see why they cannot create "skins"...much like on iPods, phones, MP3s..etc.

That's cool color! Do you still use it or get a new nucleus freedom? I just wonder.

I still use it... in fact that's the only implant I have at the moment... I have this one and I have the old one that I had since 1991....but haven't worn the 1991 CI since year 2000 when I got this one, the one I'm wearing right now.

No We don't get 2 sadly, Skint flint NHS, it's probably why american insurance companies paid huge amount of money to patients going through CI op and getting 2 devices per ear.

WE as British CANNOT get a DAMN thing online in UK, we can get battery cage, coils, accessories online outside UK but not processor or battery compartment.
BUT if our CI, coil breaks down it's easily replaced so I'd consider ourselves lucky as you are with 2 CI's, our system is differnt to US and other countries.

The NHS needs to improve their services and provide us with 2 implants in case it breaks or something. As one time I went on holiday to france and my implant stopped working on the first day so for the rest of my holiday I couldnt hear much.

When I got my Freedom a couple of years ago, all i got was a huge box with all the leads for the freedom, a packet of coils, micd and jusst the dry n store.

What do you overseas guys get in your nucleus freedom box?

They do Loan scheme for holidays etc, you'll need to ask your CI centre. They usually need 4 weeks notice.

Not for all Americans. Many CI clinics will provide the backup CI and coil at no cost but not all will because each CI is very expensive, and some hospitals or CI clinics lose some money when they provide a backup CI for free. If the CI clinic/hospital can afford to they will do it. Each CI is $7,000 each.

My CI clinic provided me with 2 CIs, the first one Medicaid and Medicare paid for, the backup was provided as part of the whole package. I'm glad they did because it would suck to be without a CI if one of my CIs broke and I had no backup. I wouldn't be able to hear music and other stuff for a few days until they send a replacement in and it arrives. With the backup I don't miss out on hearing music and stuff while I send the broken one in and have a replacement sent to me.

Cochlear Americas is pretty quick about sending replacements, though. I've gotten 2 replacements so far and the first one was within two days and the second one was 3 or 4 days, not sure. I've heard of others getting their replacements within 24 hours, but it varies on where they live and stuff because the Cochlear Americas company for the USA is based out of Colorado. At least we have a USA branch here or we would have to wait for a replacement to come all the way from down under, where Cochlear Ltd was first established - Australia - and that would take weeks due to customs and stuff.

When I was activated on October 16th 2006 I was given a huge box with just about everything and 2 Nucleus Freedoms. I even have the dry and store box. I was surprised to get all this because I am on Medicaid and Medicare. But I guess everything is included as part of the whole CI and implantation package here.

Same with me. I was on Medicare when I got implanted...twice. Both had the same stuff. I think it comes in a standard package for new implantees. It's different overseas though since government pays for it, so they "skimp" on some of the things.

So it is possible to get a bilateral implant on Medicare? I'm on both Medicare and Medicaid, and I am only implanted in my left ear.

I thought the stickers were the skins! I just looked at the Cochlear website and I am totally jealous of the stickers for the Freedom. I wish somebody would make them for my HA's! I am thinking of getting the Ear Gear covers so I can have a different color if I want. When I got my HA's they only had a few colors, now they have some different colors for the same model. A friend of mine said sometimes you can get HA's "rehoused" but I don't want to pay for that...much cheaper to get the Ear Gear covers.

My vote is for PINK!! Because pink is awesome. I am jealous of Kaelei and all those colors! Wow!
