What are you thinking about? Part VIII

I got the impression that the van is still usable, so I doubt he can get "lost wages".
It is usable but if he gets it repaired to be sellable it will be out of commission for a few weeks because it needs extensive body work. During that time he wouldn't be able to work.

Can't he wait till April to get it repaired?

He might have to. He hates driving it around town looking bad because he believes it reflects poorly on his business. He's always kept it very clean and in good shape.

I agree with this , I judge a business on how it trucks look , if the truck or van is dirty and beaten up looking it reflex what kind of work the person does to me.

No! If a truck had to drive through a mud-ridden and dirty (road-wise) neighborhood like I have seen around here, that is ON THE COUNTY/CITY who is maintaining the roads. It does not reflect (and not reflex) how the person driving the vehicle does work. O.M.G.

It depends on the kind of work and location. Obviously there are exceptions made for bad weather.

TCS works with people in their homes and businesses, so cleanliness and safety are very important to the clients.

There is OnTrac delivery company that uses beat up vans to deliver packages. Most of the vans have high miles on it. That's why it's a cheaper parcel service than UPS and FedEx.

My neighbor is fixing up an old White pickup. 1948. Hoping to help on it. He's been restoring his old tractors, too.

The exceptions, I understand. There will always be that. I think I am thinking of my own neighborhood where all the roads and vehicles always are dirty because of the volume of dirt and dust around here. So I haven't been judging the businesses that come through with dirty vehicles. But, I understand if a dirty vehicle is coming through a spotless neighborhood, then yes, that might be cause for concern. My initial post (to WDYS) was feeling more like "don't judge a book by it's cover" based on what she was saying.

If the service is good to the customer, there's no reason to judge how their commercial vehicles look. Beat up vehicle doesn't necessarily mean poor service to the customers. There's plenty of companies want to save money than fixing it or get new one.

Damn that stinks ! Would it help to talk to a lawyer and see if the other driver can be held responsible for lost wages ? I am glad TCS is OK and didn't get hurt .

I would think the auto insurance people will take care of that so he technically doesn't have to go to a lawyer to do anything. Hopefully TCS can find out something from his insurance company on what will happen. If it is known the other driver is at fault then yes (in most cases...) that driver's insurance will pay for the repair.

I hope. That just sucks Reba, don't think that's what you and TCS wanted to happen right before he retires. Murphy's Law strikes...

That's true but I can see it from TCS's point of view too... he puts pride into his work and what is essentially his..."office" if you will- so wants to have that show. I don't know the answers though. If he has long term customers/clients they may understand why his van got dinged and not mind it at all but for new customers/clients I suspect it will bug TCS no doubt.

True, small or independent contractors may want to keep their vehicle look clean for their customer/clients. As long as the contractor has a good reputation, that's what it counts than whether their vehicle(s) is beat up or not.

Thinking the over use of LOL and HAHa is annoying. Can't take someone who does that seriously.

That I'm surprised to see lightning this morning. First time this year for that, I think. It seems early since we're hearing we're supposed to get more snow later this week. (What! :) It was 70 just a few days ago. Typical Minnesota weather.

Reba, sorry to read about TCS with his van! That's very disheartening and frustrating!

I'm thinking I wish this cold I have would start to moderate a little...

My condo association hired a bugman to spray for ants around our buildings and when I saw the poor condition of the truck I knew
they bad news ! The guys spilled bug spray right in front of our steps and we couldn't see it until it dried up . So we were stepping into the spray
and tracking into our home. And the ants were walking all over the spray like it was joke . We have a big ugly white spot in front of our
building, it won't wash away. If a business doesn't care about their own property they most likely won't care about their customers property .
TCS would had gotten a lot of business in my city .

Good lord... Not all are like that.

A person could have the cleanest rig in town but still have the worst service/business practices in the world.

A person could also have not exactly the neatest or best kept rig in town but everyone flocks to them because of their high level of service/skills/customer experience.

I judge by what they do and how they do it not how they come packaged (that's just a teeny tiny part of my overall view).

And as always sometimes yes, poor rig = poor service and great rig= great service.

I would have done business with TCS regardless of how his van looked because his ratings would be high anyway and he'd come highly recommended.

(yes the above will fall on deaf ears so to speak but still felt like I had to speak my mind)
