What are you thinking about? Part VI

Well it's supposed to be thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow, with rain on Monday. Wondering if I should get out in the backyard and sweep away all that pollen filled stuff that my tree had dropped everywhere.

If the wind comes, that should take care of it - but if the rain comes it makes a horrible mess which means I'd have to hose off the patio.

Maybe I should just get out there and do it. I'm hesitating because I'm highly allergic and I know I'll be feeling awful the rest of the day.

Wear a mask and then immediately after, throw your clothes in the wash and shower.

I am still puzzling over the no Q-tip in the ear thing. I have been sticking Q-tips in my ears for decades. I soak up any moisture in them after showering or swimming. If they itch inside I take a Q-tip and soak in 99% alcohol and swab the itchy spot. When I started doing all that the ear infections ended. Period. I can see where someone could fall down with a Q-tip in their ear and hurt themself if they landed just right without pulling it out in time. I twirl mine as I go in so I am not pushing anything ahead.
I have heard this about no don't stick those in your ears but hey I would tell that to my kid you bet. I am in control of my Q-tips no one is going to pry mine from my fingers.

My ENT told us about a guy who came in with this story (after I asked how many ways can someone perforate their ear as that is why my daughter was in his office yet again).

The guy was doing what you do, cleaning his ears out after a shower. He then remembered he had something on the stove and LEFT THE Q-TIP IN HIS EAR  as he went to the kitchen. When he went to remove the pot, it splashed and his natural reaction to throw his arm up pushed the Q-tip into his ear and perforated his eardrum.

I use a Q-tip the same way you do, twirling it and not pushing it in...which may be why the physician assistant who was removing wax recently said I had the wax in the nooks & crannies down in my ear canal .

I remember my Dad workin' on his ears with the end of a Strike-Anywhere match so I guess my high risk q-tip behaviour is learned, smiles, I sure miss that guy.
Have you every tried ear candling? I did it once many years back, it was amazing how much wax came out of my ears. Probably another remedy that shouldn't be done, I don't know. I thought it was cool.

 @ the bolded. I'm with you !!

I'm extremely cautious about how far I stick mine in, but I do use them. Every day. Especially after a shower, and before bed after wearing earmolds all day. I have yet to ever have an ear infection or wax build-up since I was about 2 or 3 years old, and I'm in my 40's now. To not use them makes my ears feel wet and soggy, so it feels to me like I'm doing something right.

No, never have done ear candling. And never plan to.
My mom would use a bobby pin to scratch her ears, but would tell us not to put anything smaller than an elbow in our ears. I won't use anything but my finger or a q-tip to scratch my ears.
