What annoy YOU, as a hearing person, about the Deaf?

teacher (signed) and interper who talk back to the teacher....should sign too. Not shut their signing then explain afterward..sign ANYWAY like every other hearing kids that hears in the room with u. :D

I don't care if the hearing person is blah blah about me.. that's their plm. that's who's hearing person have learn how is deaf culture. i can ignore hearing person who's don't like deaf culture i guess i'm wrong but just my opinion. sorry

i don't really have any complaints, and things like misunderstandings in communication (which happens quite often with my gf and I and is the cause of a lot of frustration) just takes patience to get through. I know i'll say something to my gf (she lipreads) and she'll look away for a second with a confused look on her face and say "huh?" that kind of thing just takes patience and much repeating. Thats the only thing that could possibly annoy me is impatience if you're trying to communicate something.

The only things that bother me are when the Deaf person underestimates my signing ability and signs english instead of ASL or signs very slow or when they stop to fingerspell every third word to make sure I'm fllowing along. It's very nice of them, and I understand why they do it, but it makes me crazy.

All of the other cultural differences just make me curious. Like waving "I love you" as a good bye, or taking an hour to say good bye, or telling me their life story when all they want is to know where the towels are. Generally all that just makes me giggle.

All i ask is please don't "dumb down' your sign. I can take it!

Most times when I see "hearing bashing" the sentence starts out " I hate it when hearing people" or "I hate it when hearies".

To answer that, the only thing I think when I see a sentence start out like that is "Oh crap, I hope I've never done that!' and then I keep it in mind in case a situation where I might do something like that comes up. Bash away! I've got thick skin! I'm a potato-picking dago (Irish Italian) i can take it!

I sometimes not comfortable when I talks with my deaf friend in malll and hearing people stare and think i am stupid or what, then I look another hearing people. they stop stare. what a big annoying myself !!!

I hate it when deaffied put cake in my face at my party...ofc, they were talking about it right in front of me, and I didn't even notice. So basically, I hate it when they can talk about me in front of me and I don't have a clue cuz they are signing WAY too fast for me.

Many people did not know that I am deaf. When they talk to me. They asked me if I lost my voice, eh? I impacted to use my voice and told them I am deaf, ha.. They were like WOW that I can lipreading very well.

Several people who are impatient. I ignored them. I let them to shout in my ear.. They were being so stupid. After I m done with something and I turned around and look.. Yes? she said, "I told you 3 times." and I told her, Well You should have tap my shoulder if I didn't hear from you. so I am deaf. sorry!" Other a couple.... A couple of old ladies.. when she gave me the money.. press my hand down a bit too hard. I was very patient with her until she s done do that. Then I asked her why she did that? and someone told her that I am deaf. She told someone that She feels like that she wants to and don't tell her. I shouted, hey YOU.. Know what? I can read your lip... have a nice day. SHe was like, oh and left. I thought it was funny.. :naughty:

Yeah, my parents have that experience with me, when I look away to ignore them. They did not like it. I was in high school that time. :o

Ah.. I know how you feel... it's the same way with me in the opposite situation. When hearings chitchat to each other and I'm in the group, I was like what what what almost all the time because they speak fast and not thinking that I'm there.

some of my family think i am aonnoy to ask them what they talk about? Now i don;t ask them anymore cuz i fed up witt it

I have heard several complaints from the hearing people.

Some hates it when I stare at them too much. Some feels threatened when I am in the room with them just because of my eyes checking them over and over. It's because there weren't any TV or anything else to do in there except to wait and be patient. Sometimes, they'll say, "What are you looking at?" when they catch me looking at them talking along themselves.

Even there's been times when hearing people get aggravated with me "bothering" or "interrupting" them. It was primarily because I wanted to remind them that I need help to know what is going on. They never realize it until I explain that if I was hearing, I could walk up and just listen and not bother anyone.

There are many that I could go and go on about this issue. Maybe that would help you to preconceive some of my point of views.

Not a bit. I actually have a habit of signing "Understand" every once in awhile, myself, just to make sure I'm signing everything right. Especially if I don't know the sign for something and I'm trying to describe it, in that case everything is "You know, thing? This color? Understand? You know?" I just mean like, for example, I was student interpreting for the GLDBA and a lady came over and saw that my name tag clearly said "Student Interpreter" and automatically stopped and changed from ASL to PSE or something and signed (VERY slowly) "Can... you... please... ask... them..." then her husband, who I'd met earlier all but pushed her out of the way and said what they wanted. It was really nice of her to do that for me, but it won't help my sign. And, I am good enough that you don't have to go that slow. I've noticed (and this might just be me) it seems women are more likely to do that. Maybe women are just more likely to try and be nice? LOL

Actually, I dont have problems with hearing or deafies.. but depends on their attitudes toward to me.. I just walk away.. or let it go.. but if talk back or say harsh, I would be.. umm...
