What about used hearing aids??

Yes, even if you don't go for programming, you usually make two appointments to have the molds made. One for to make an ear mold impression. And the other to pick them up when they're ready in about a week or two.

So....

1 st appointment--hearing test, to have mold made

2nd appointment to fit hearing aids, and program them?

Can I go to first appointment, then find an used hearing aids, then fit the mold made for 2nd appointment? Bring the used hearing aid....

Getting the mold made usually takes a couple of weeks. You would probably also have your hearing test at a separate appointment from the rest.

I live in Chicago. My girlfriend lives in MI. I see her 2 or 3 times a month. I was wondering if I should get hearing test and be fit in Chicago or Michigan? Does it matter? I do want to do it in Michigan so that I can do it with my girlfriend.

Are you moving to Michigan? Where you will be most should be where you get the fitting. It will be easier for any adjustments.

I don't plan to move to Michigan right now, but maybe in the near future. If I just need 2 visits for hearing aids fitting, Michigan should be sufficient seeing that I am there 2 or 3 times a month.

Did you get my PM about the audi in St. Joseph that I like?

Derek, I've got a pair of my old hearing aids that I kept for back-up for a long time, but they are no longer strong enough for me. They are Phonak "Sono-Forte 332X AZ." They date from 1997 - pretty ancient by HA standards, but they are from a good manufacturer and they still work. They are for a severe hearing loss. Please ask your audi if they could be programmed to suit you. If so, they're yours. I'll even toss in the postage to mail them to you!

Obviously you'll want to buy something better if you decide HAs are for you, but if these could possibly work and tide you over for a while, I'd be glad to send them.

Well

I hope that I know what I am doing buying used hearing aids off E Bay. After all, I know bikes, but not hearing aids. I would hate to buy a 10 years old hearing aid. A 2 or 3 year old one should be sufficient, I would think. I hope I know how old they are before I bid on them.

You know how old they are by the model name. Me for example, I wear Phonak Savia's and I bought them in 2006, so they are an older model and has now been replaced.

I bought them from hearingplanet.com and had them fitted by an audiologist in my city that was approved by hearingplanet. Anyhow, you also need to have hearing aides that suit your level of hearing loss etc etc.

The hearing planet website has many hearing aid styles and brands on there and you could also use this site to check up on the types that are for sale on ebay.

Good luck!!

Those look a little sketchy, actually. Plus they are not for the severely hard-of-hearing; they are for more of a moderate loss. One says they are designed for nursing home residents with limited mobility in their hands.

I can see how they'd be useful for someone with modest needs, but for a young man who is out and about and meeting customers and having a social life, not so much.

Now, that you mentioned it, I see what you mean. There are even alot of pictures of seniors in there and all that.

Yes, I did get your PM. i would be happy to ask my audi if they would be programmed. They may be too old, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I'll go from there.

I thank you for wanting to do this and will let you know what I decide. I would hate to make you go all the trouble to mail them if they cannot be programmed.

Yeah, I might be out as much as three whole bucks!!! Post office is right on the corner of my subdivision, so no trouble at all - I'm there every day to get my mail.

Anyway, if they would work for you, that would be great. If not, I'll donate them to the Lions or somebody. They definitely do still work; I just checked them with batteries and they are fine. I don't know how programmable they are, or if an audi could even tell by description alone if they'd work for you, but if they're worth a try for you, I'd be more than happy to send them on. Just say the word.

I've a real hearing test scheduled for this Thursday. I'll let you all know how it turns out. I'll ask them about used hearing aids.

My Mom had scheduled a test with this company Audibel Home Page . Sorry, but I don't think they're any good!!

She did it on recommendation from someone that she knows that wears hearing aids. I thought that this is a terrible company so Mom decided to cancel. I don't care. I want a neutral audiologist that would let me pick the best hearing aids. Not be limited to company line.

Is there a speech and hearing center near where you are that you could go to? If you could find a good one, what they usually do is have you tested for different hearing aids from different brands and so forth.

Hi- I would like those aids if you don't give them to Derek. I am currently using them and like to have spares around. Thanks, Jim
