I live in Chicago. My girlfriend lives in MI. I see her 2 or 3 times a month. I was wondering if I should get hearing test and be fit in Chicago or Michigan? Does it matter? I do want to do it in Michigan so that I can do it with my girlfriend.
I hope that I know what I am doing buying used hearing aids off E Bay. After all, I know bikes, but not hearing aids. I would hate to buy a 10 years old hearing aid. A 2 or 3 year old one should be sufficient, I would think. I hope I know how old they are before I bid on them.
Now, that you mentioned it, I see what you mean. There are even alot of pictures of seniors in there and all that. Those look a little sketchy, actually. Plus they are not for the severely hard-of-hearing; they are for more of a moderate loss. One says they are designed for nursing home residents with limited mobility in their hands.
I can see how they'd be useful for someone with modest needs, but for a young man who is out and about and meeting customers and having a social life, not so much.
Did you get my PM about the audi in St. Joseph that I like?
Derek, I've got a pair of my old hearing aids that I kept for back-up for a long time, but they are no longer strong enough for me. They are Phonak "Sono-Forte 332X AZ." They date from 1997 - pretty ancient by HA standards, but they are from a good manufacturer and they still work. They are for a severe hearing loss. Please ask your audi if they could be programmed to suit you. If so, they're yours. I'll even toss in the postage to mail them to you!
Obviously you'll want to buy something better if you decide HAs are for you, but if these could possibly work and tide you over for a while, I'd be glad to send them.

I feel old at 34. I don't want to age fast!! Please!!!
Yes, I did get your PM. i would be happy to ask my audi if they would be programmed. They may be too old, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I'll go from there.
I thank you for wanting to do this and will let you know what I decide. I would hate to make you go all the trouble to mail them if they cannot be programmed.
Best of luck with your test!I've a real hearing test scheduled for this Thursday. I'll let you all know how it turns out. I'll ask them about used hearing aids.
Is there a speech and hearing center near where you are that you could go to? If you could find a good one, what they usually do is have you tested for different hearing aids from different brands and so forth. My Mom had scheduled a test with this company Audibel Home Page . Sorry, but I don't think they're any good!!
She did it on recommendation from someone that she knows that wears hearing aids. I thought that this is a terrible company so Mom decided to cancel. I don't care. I want a neutral audiologist that would let me pick the best hearing aids. Not be limited to company line.
