weird things you did to save money???

One time I ate only peanut butter, bananas, and water for three solid weeks. I also walked four miles to and from work (8 miles total). This was two years ago lol.

Yikes....you are the proverbial Duracell bunny!

Edited: And that was a compliment and admiration for you!

Once I tried turning off the hot water tank half the day during a month to see if it would save money. It did not make much of a difference.

@ Dixie, baggies are ziploc bags. They are plastic storage bags that close with a built in zipper or a twist tie.

I reuse grocery bags too, they make great small can trash sacks or to crochet into mats for dog dishes or they make nice stuffing for lawn furniture cushions.

I use plastic bags from the grocery store as trash liners.

I think everyone uses walmart bags as trashliners to save money in their home, it reduces clutter and no excess buildup of bags. I usually have 4/5 stuffed in the the bottom of my trashcan, then I pull another one on top to fill with trash. I also use extra bags as poop bags for when I am out in a public park with the dogs and they take a dump. I just turn the bag wrong side out, pick up poop, pull it through, tie it shut and dispose in trash can.

Not everyone. I havent been to a walmart in 2 years.

When I was a kid, I was a talented artist and I drew unicorns. At the time, they were so popular so my peers paid me money to draw unicorns on their notebooks. I kept putting the coins in a jar because i was always too busy to spend them and saw how much money accumulated over time which started my passion for huge coin jars. I have a few in my closet now. One for pennies, one for dimes, one for nickels and a small one for quarters. Been doing that for almost 30 years now.

One of the coin jars paid for my whole trip to the AD meet in NYC. No lie!

You make me think of my brother who likes to do that too.

I used to change price stickers from a cheaper item to the expensive one :/ Yes, I was bad </3 I don't do that anymore :D

My friend did that for her prom dress. She encouraged me to do it as well but I was too chicken because I didnt want to hurt my mom by stealing. It was tempting cuz my mom made me pay for my expensive prom dress from the money I earned working at Jack in the Box. LOL!

Oh here's something else, if it is less than 2 miles to your destination, walk. If farther but less than 10 miles, ride a bicycle, if it is more than that, drive.

What's a stack for you? Species of wood?

Cedar, hickory and oak and sometimes birch and pecan - by stack I mean 4x4x4

Its easy to do, plenty of exercise and when I see a tree down in someone's yard, they are happy for me to haul it off.

Lolol! My mom, to this day, doesn't know I did those things. Another thing that I "did" and I quote it cause I didn't want to do it but my friend used my huge purse to stuff it in. We were in the supermarket and there was this dessert called "tres leches" but we didn't have enough money to buy it. I joked around saying that we could stuff it in my purse and take it but she took it to heart >.> I was so neurotic after that lol how embarassing it'd be if I get jailed cause I stole a dessert?!?!?!?! She walked into an aisle that had no supervision and stuffed it...I almost leave her alone in the market but that'd be suspicious, at least, I thought so.

I'd do that but I'm afraid I'll get run over...>.<

I do walk to places instead of using the car :) Go green!

Not weird at all. It's called bartering. We've done it, too.

No that was not bartering, bartering it when two party exchange their service for no money. The car dealership did not gain anything from this . It did cost them them money to refill their car, so it was a lost from them. They got nothing out of it. Both party come out ahead when you're bartering, not one party.

Yes, I use the bags for waste basket liners, and for picking up dog poop the way you described.

She was referring to my post where a friend is making a quilt for my mom as a Christmas present. Because I don't have the money to outright pay her, I am doing work for her at and around her house to pay her for it. This also includes working on the quilt as well. If I get money soon, I will see to it that she receives at least some sort of cash payment for it so it is not a complete financial loss for her. It is my hope that it is a win-win for both of us.

What car? Dixie told us about exchanging service for the special quilt being made.

 We must have posted at almost the same time!

If I am in a really tight bind for money, I will start selling stuff I dont need like DVDs, books, clothes, jewelry, etc. Just whatever I have available. I have considered selling the Wii to make Christmas happen this year, but if I do, I know my daughter will throw an absolute fit.

Selling small stuff like books, DVDs, etc.. it's ok.

Selling expensive stuff like Wii or laptop... IMO - definitely not worth it since you lose more. Selling a $500 thing for what? $200? or $150? completely pointless. it's best to NOT buy it in the first place.

My bro always do that and it pisses me off.

because it consumes energy to warm the water inside the tank.
