We need to ban Taser

gay/lesbian marriage banned :afro:

Excuse me?? You think its funny to ban gay/lesbian marriage? Leave it alone. Stop talk off the point.

Sorry abt it. Back to the point. Vamp is right abt the cops didn't get a good training abt how to use it. Maybe the cops was panicked and shot it right away and didn't think twice. Hmm?

Hey hot-headed woman, this is just between me and Puyo.

Leave us ALONE!

Actually if the person who got tasered has certain medical conditions, tasers can be deadly.

It would be not a problem IF a person obey what police re saying then he or she would get electrode at the first place.

Most people who get ZAP! usually are troublemaker or have problems with authorities.

Even if Taser had been proven to kill a person but

I would rather be shot at with a Taser than a gun by a idiot cop that can't tell the different between a person purposely ignoring cop's order or person is deaf.

So I must say I am againist banning of Taser and would like to see more of it use by cops in trying to restrain a person over a gun.

I have nothing againist guns and own several rifles and handguns myself it the idiots handling them is what I am againist.

.

should have freeze gun.

It make easy for police shot and said.. freeze!

So that justifies the deaths? Especially the one originating in this post. Pepper spray, batons, and taser used on an unarmed man; more than one police officer there to subdue him. Excessive force. This is still America, isn't it?

Do tasers/stun guns reduce firearms use? NO
In Houston, however, police shootings did not decline after the deployment of thousands of tasers.

For example, the Houston Police Department has "shot, wounded, and killed as many people as before the widespread use of the stun guns" and has used tasers in situations that would not warrant lethal or violent force, such as verbal aggression.

Source: The Taser Effect: Two years after HPD armed itself with the stun guns, questions linger over how and how often the weapon is being used Jan. 14, 2007

The argument that tasers prevent injury and/or death is simply not true.

====================

Police officers attend a class on how to use tasers. They are usually required to be stunned, at least, once before using it. Why do people keep dying it when police use it?

Although tests on police and military volunteers have shown tasers to function appropriately on a healthy, calm individual in a relaxed and controlled environmnent, the real-life target of a taser is, if not mentally or physically unsound, in a state of high stress and in the midst of a confrontation.

In other words, healthy people are good citizens. Healthy people can handle a taser stun. Most people being subdued by police officers are not healthy and have a higher chance of dying. Therefore, using tasers during police duty is attempted murder.

================================

Most discharges of taser guns were accidental. YES

More than 50% of taser discharges occur because of accidents.

Source: Taser incident database - Louisville Metro Police December 2004 - July 2006 - 292 Taser incidents

================================

Are tasers/stun guns considered torture? YES

The U.N. has declared: "TASER electronic stun guns are a form of torture that can kill"

================================

Consider the cost for police one-time usage:

One bullet = less than .50 cents each
One pepper spray = $15+ each
One taser cartridge = $25+ each

Wrongful Death Suits: $Millions
================================

Tasers were a "safe" alternative for policing. Most troublemakers were mentally ill, under the influence, and/or going through health crisis (like a diabetic shock). Tasers are more threatening to them than others (who don't usually make trouble).

In short, taser guns do not solve the problems it was used for.

I rather be shot with a stun gun then a taser gun or a hand gun by a chop. But I use pepper spray or using martial art karate self-denfese classes that helps if someone would supposly attack you which you have a better chance to protect yourself.

French Reveal Plans for Taser Flying Saucer
A French businessman tells AFP his company is working on putting TASER stun guns on a flying saucer that would zap protesters, evil-doers, and anybody else that authorities there don't like. Antoine di Zazzo, identified by AFP as "one of the biggest Taser representatives" outside the United States, said his company is "developing a mini-flying saucer like drone which could also fire Taser stun rounds on criminal suspects or rioting crowds. He expects it to be launched next year and to be sold internationally by Taser."

TASER could soon be big in France, the AFP reports. French President Nicolas Sarkozy's "no-nonsense law and order tactics are one reason why the engineer businessman is confident of huge demand for the gun, despite controversy over its use in North America and being declared a form of torture by a UN committee."

What I don't get is that AFP put the flying saucer thing at the end of the freakin' story about TASER! What the heck!? Are stun-gun equipped flying saucers just sort of ho-hum in France? This should have been a huge headline with pictures of children running for their lives, as the evil alien-looking TASER saucers attack.

I think this need to ban Taser or stun gun as it is not working quite well when coming face to face with the criminal or someone who was/is out of control with mental illness or having a trouble problem which they are upset about. I know it is the best way to use Taser for freeze or electrocute the person to prevent the person from harm to himself or police officers, but it is not working at all!!!!! All the posts or threads that you are all talking about is a very serious thing to think about. I would not want to be electrocute and have to die like this. That is violent death and it hurt me to see people going through like this. As for the Taser flying object, I have seen one movie that show the flying object that fly up in the air around the buildings looking for unwanted people and that scare a lot of people because it is exactly like Taser. No one want to be hurt or be electrocute. I don't know if there is any other way to handle the situation to stop the criminal or mentally ill people or people who are out of control when they are upset. There must be a better way to come up with another idea that would be safe and reasonable to calm the person down. It is really sad to see people have to die like that. Our native community would not want that either. :nono:

Banning tasers isn't going to solve the problem completely. They still have a right to protect themselves, but they also should be better educated on handicaps and disabilities.

It should also be a 2-way street with everything. If a person is diabetic or has a health issue, he/she should be wearing a necklace or bracelet that identifies that health issue. If a person is deaf or wears glasses, it should be mentioned on their identification/license. We can't expect cops to know EVERYTHING just by looking at another person. I could look at a person standing still and not doing anything... and I wouldn't know if that person was hearing or deaf or was diabetic or something. I had a roommate who was diabetic, he wears a bracelet that is easily identifiable. My license says that I wear hearing aids. We both are doing our part to identify ourselves to others who are unlike us. :)

Problem is, the cops tasers before he checks the ID of the victim. And I don't think cops routinely look at Medic Alert bracelets before they taser someone either.

Exactly.

Then there's an excuse for a lawsuit. :)
